    ASCo 8318D20 Solenoid Valve Leakage

This valve is no longer supplied by ASCo, but they do supply a repair kit that works. After many years they slowly leak air from the supply to the exhaust plenums. Does anyone know specifically why? I am wondering if I can substitute say a viton o-ring in the repair kit and get longer life...

    Outlet Expansion Fittings

I want a gradual expansion fitting for the outlet of a PRV to reduce back pressure, 2" to 3" NPT. Swage nipples appear to have a large (>10°) included expansion angle. Another idea is an eccentric PVC reducing coupling. (I can use PVC for this.) Does anyone know: 1) Included angles on swage...

    Why is Snoop so Expensive?

Snoop leak detection fluid costs $125.00 a gallon at working strength, Seamtest concentrate costs $0.15 a gallon when diluted to working strength. Does anyone know why? Snoop claims adherance to some specifications, Seamtest does not. Any advice about other fluids or home grown formulas...

    FMEA RPN Calculations

On FMEA's, I have concerns about the validity of the Risk Priority Number, determined by multiplying the Severity, Occurrence, and Detection (1-10) numbers. On http://www.quality-one.com/services/fmea.php a problem is presented: ************************* Determine the order of need for change...

    Water in Compressed Air Alarm

I am looking for a way to have an alarm activate when my compressed air dryer fails. My thought is a simple float that actuates a switch when water accumulates in the bottom of a bowl. Anyone heard of a device like that or some other simple, foolproof method of detecting water in an air line?

    Tempered Water for Safety Showers

Does anyone have any experience with this? I have 10 - 14 PSIG steam and three showers to feed, two of which could be flowing. Everything I find is big, complicated and expensive. Looking for a simple, efficient solution.

    Condensate Piping Corrosion

We use process steam that cannot have chemicals in it because it humidifies medical products, but condense about 80% of our steam. The black iron condensate lines either get eaten from the inside or plug up with rust. We've replaced short runs with stainless steel with some success, but I...

    Drag and Drop

I want to be able to use "drag and drop" editing to move data in a spreadsheet, but I would like the formulas that access the data to pick the data from the same place. The application is a project tooling budget by part and by month. When the schedule moves, I would like to simply...

Lambeck's Laws of Design and Development

I cut this article out of Machine Design early in my career and it has been a great source of perspective and wisdom. Machine Design graciously gave me permission to send it to Eng-Tips. Law #1 - Build in enough design margin to counteract the effects of minor manufacturing deviations and...
