    17-4 Corrosion

We have some equipment which has corroded faster than expected and I wonder if anyone might be able to provide some insight? Matl: 17-4PH H1150 HRC 28 with a liquid nitride treatment Exposed to atmosphere on offshore platform in warm climate. Severely pitted/corroded within 4 months. We have...

    CNC Tube bender

Could someone supply me with names of manufacturers for CNC tube bending equipment? We spend a lot of labour dollars bending hydraulic lines, usually the same configuration over and over again. I'd like to see if it's economical to automate some of this. Material is always 316, always 1/4&quot...

    Material Selection for Metal-to-Metal Seal

I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction for material selection of a malleable metal-to-metal seal. I want it to be fairly soft approx. preferably in the 50 HRB neighbourhood but 80 HRB max. I'm sealing against AISI 4130. Retained fluid is sour gas expected to contain about 25%...

    718 and Galling?

I want to use Inconel 718 for a valve stem and gate nut but need to know a few things first. Is 718 susceptible to galling? If it is will copper plating the nut threads help or will this cause other problems? Will 718 (approx 18% Fe)take a nitride? Any help would be appreciated.

    Effect of Mn on weldability

What effect can I expect on the weldability of 4130 if the following elements are increased: Mn from .40% to .60% increased to .60% to .80% Mo from .15% to .25% increased to .25% to .35% Si from .15% to .35% increased to .20% to .40% Supplier is offering the modified chemistry to meet 75K RC22...

    Chemistry change to unassigned metal

I already know the answer to this but I have to ask anyways. I have a procedure for an unassigned metal (4130) with Mn .40 to .60 & Mo .15 to .25. If my supplier provides material with Mn .60 to .80 and Mo .22 to .35 do I have to requalify the procedure?

    Hardness to Tensile Correlation

Is there an ASTM spec that provides the relationship between hardness and tensile strength. I thought there was but I can't seem to find it. In particular I'm trying to determine the minimum hardness to specify for 4140 ASTM A193 Gr B7. Hardness value will be used as a quality check. If I pick...

    Dialog Box Defaults

Is there an easy way to change the default values in dialog boxes. Specifically, I'd like to change the default chamfer lengths in amcham2d to 1/32", 1/16", 3/32", etc. instead of typing them in every time.

We have a high temp valve that was

We have a high temp valve that was returned on warranty. Upon inspection the gate, stem, gate guides were all warped. Customer claims the operating temperature was 350 F but I suspect considerably higher. My question what temperature do you have to reach to discolor alloy steel (4130 Q&T) blue.

    Metal-to-Metal Radial Seal I nee

Metal-to-Metal Radial Seal I need a metal-to-metal, static, 10000-psi, radial seal. I have control over the OD dimensions but the 7” ID may vary +/- 1% on diameter, may be out of round +/- 1%, and may be slightly off centre. Has anyone ever seen anything that might work in an application like...

ISO 10423 Can anyone tell me if ISO 10423 still contains the dimensions for OTIS style lubricator adaptors in the appendices. I'd like to know before I blow the $250 US for a copy.

    Documentation Structures

I've started work at a small to medium manufacturer whose specifications are a complete mess. As an example there are 47 different material specs for 4130 one for every single variation in yield str, impact temp, quality requirement, etc. I'd like to try and wrap the 47 into one spec with...

    MS Outlook Forms

Anyone have any experience customizing MS Outlook forms for use in conjunction with MS Access? I was thinking about using this for engineering requests, corrective action reporting, design reviews, etc. If anyone knows where I might be able to find some templates or reading material along these...

    Drawing Nomenclature

Ran across a drawing notation specifying: 'Higby first and last thread'. I'm assuming this is asking for a blunt start thread but am curious as to the term's origin and as to whether it is or was ever in common usage.
