Does RISAFoundation calculate the moment on a pile due to lateral load? I see shear, compression and tension in the pile design check, but no moment check.
How can one import a .dxf file into an existing RISAFloor model, and have the new information placed onto an existing floor level?
Also, is there a way to merge different floors at the same elevation into a single floor?
Why would a simple span, uniformly loaded (on one axis only) beam using 'rigid' member section properties have torsion?
Since RISA-3D does not have joist section properties available I used rigid members instead, and noticed that the shear and moment diagrams for the beams supporting the joists...
RISA 3d can display a masonry wall's base reaction at intervals along it's length, but where is the spreadsheet with this information? The joint reactions spreadsheet provides only the total value. Having access to these reactions would be tremendously helpful for designing wall footings.
Is there a way to click (or keystroke+click) on the beams to edit their properties? Editing via the spreadsheet is incredibly cumbersome by comparison.
How does one model a beam that has the bottom half of the beam coped out of the middle third of the span? I have tried using three segments (end spans as a W-Shape, middle span as a WT-shape) with the ends fixed, but get Error code 2049 (Framing problem, beam is unsupported).
According to the Excel 2002 specifications, one can have up to 32,767 characters in a cell; 1,024 characters will display in the cell and all 32,767 will display in the formula bar.
When I try to enter character number 1,025 into the formula bar (or the cell) I get a "Formula is too...
I've been using STAAD.Pro 2001 for the past year and have grown increasingly frustrated with it's cumbersome operation and have the opportunity to acquire some newer software. RISA and RAM seem like the next step.
Would you recommend RISA-3D or RAM Advanse for the analysis and design of...
I have modeled a 40" x 40" column base plate with (4) 12" dia. pipe columns on it (equally spaced in both directions). How do I tell STAAD that the base plate will be on a concrete pedestal (f'c = 4.0 ksi)? My first guess is to assign supports at the mesh intersections:
SUPPORTS...
If a cmu wall is unreinforced, the tensile capacity of the mortar prevents the wall from pivoting, thus, moment is transferred to the footing. If the mortar tensile capacity is exceeded, the joint cracks, pivots, and failure is surely to follow, so tensile reinforcing steel is provided and now...
I'm designing a wall that is fixed at the base and pinned at the top, with various soil heights (none of them go full height). Could someone please post the equations for shear and moment for this loading/restraint condition? I can't find it anywhere!
Thanks!
Can anyone direct me towards a hand-calculation method for designing column base plates for biaxial bending? So far, the only thing I've found is an equivalent uniaxial method used by STAAD etc. The plate thickness appears reasonable with this method, but the anchor bolt requirements do not...
