    Fe/AC8 Plating Cross Reference?

Hello all, I'm trying to find some specification on an Italian print note. The treatment calls out for Fe/AC8 per UNI 3740-6. As I read the spec Fe is: is base metal AC is the chemical anti-corrosion coating, made of chromates metals and polymeric organic binders. 8 is the nominal thickness of...

    Material Analysis?

Hi all, my company asked me to research equipment used in metal material analysis. We like to be able to check material compositions in-house. I know that most equipment like this is specialized however I don't even know where to start. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction...

How to safely contain a fall of heavy equipment?

Hi all, I have a hoist that will be lifting roughly 5000lbs. My "weight" is in a skeleton frame (approx. 4' x 4' x 4')and will be lifted by cables. I need to implement something under it in case of a failure to catch it. I'm not sure what terminology to search for. I'm thinking air bags or some...

Pillow block mounted on linear bearing???

Anyone have any experience in this? My design is a lift using a lever so when the lever is rotated providing the lift the radius changes. I thought a pillow block mounted directly to a linear rail would do the job. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Mechanical Lift - Ideas - Rotary Mechanical Actuator

Hey all, I'm looking for ideas on building a test fixture for an actuator we're building. In a nutshell, I need to rotate the actuator 180 deg. and lift approx. 4000lbs. I'm trying to think of ways to run it up and then down and then switch the side of the load. In other words when I rotate it...

    "Miniature" needle roller cage assembly?

Hi all, I'm looking for a bearing that I can't seem to find and was wondering if I'm missing something. The bearing is a needle roller cage assembly for 1/4" shaft and 1/4" long. It seems all the big bearing manufacturers start the cage assemblies for 3/8" shafts. I was thinking that what I have...

    Bearing identification (

I'm trying to identify a bearing and thought someone here may be able to help. O.D. 30mm I.D. .3125" Outer Race Length .686" (17.4mm) Inner Race Length .970" (24.6mm) The inner race only extends in one direction and appears to have been machined so there's no telling what the original bore...

    Minature Slew Ring/Turntable Bearing???

I'm looking for a minature internal tooth slew ring. I say minature because everything I've found so far is HUGE. What I'm looking for should be roughly 6" OD x 4.5" ID and very thin (not more than 1/2"). I did find one at Kaydon but it turns out that although it's in their catalog, they've...

    Involute Spline - ASA Standards?

I have an old document that is incredibly hard to read but it appears there's a reference to ASA-BS:15. I think it should be ASA B5.15-1960 or 1950 but either way, I can't seem to find it. Does anyone recognize this and can help me get in the right direction? It might even be obsolete and cross...

Odd nut/screw/bolt/retainer? Read post for description...

I've come across an odd screw in a valve. I think it might be called a valve retainer screw but I'm not sure. It appears to have a 7/8-20 thead, is 1/4" in length and has an 5/16" allen hex completely through the center. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks....

    'artificial' load on electric motor???

Hey all, I've got an electric motor in house that I need to test for a period of a couple days and am looking for a way to load it down. We've all thought of some sort of fly wheel or fan but thought maybe some of you have had success with other ideas, ie braking systems, gear boxes, etc. Any...

    Plastic that doesn't deform easily?

In my curent project I'm going to use two shoulder bolts 180 degrees from each other t'ing off the end of a shaft and twisting the face of the shoulder against the other end of the drive (think of it line a flat head screwdriver). The shoulder bolts will have some type of poly sleeve but I'm...

    Surface Textures and Finishes?

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me shed some light on this. Occasionally (like all of us) I have a machined part that is mating with another machined part. I've always seen symbols depicting a "finish" but I'm having a hard time understanding what values are used in/on what applications. For...

Calculating Vacuum Pressure within a Cylinder???

Hi all, lets say I have a tube of material (any) and I cap both ends. Now I drill a hole in one side (end or whatever) and draw a vacuum. How do I determine the strength of the material being used on either end and the "tube". For the sake of the question let say the cylinder was 6061 alum and...

    Spiral Assembly Pattern?

I have a round plate with a hole offset from the center that I'd like to (let me try to explain this) stack and rotate at the same time. Sort of like when you take a stack of napkins and twist the pile so it looks nice lol.. Anyhow, I think I'm on the right path but I can't seem to get it right...

When tightening the jam nut against the...

    Constraining to a conical shape???

I have a tapered "tube" and I need to constrain a flat plate to the outside of it on a slight angle. The tube, is about a 6" diameter that taperes at 2 degrees and is around 5 inches tall. I have a small tag (.03" x 1/2" x 1/2" sheet metal part) that needs to be "attached" to the outside in a...
