Design pressure for vessels is usually taken higher of 1.1 times the maximum operating pressure or 30 psi. Is this correct? Please confirm and give the reference as well.
Somebody told me that we cannot use SS316 Spiral Wound Gaskets below -100 Degree Centigrade. Is this correct? If not, then please let me know the minimum temperature, which this gasket can withstand. Please provide code reference.
Clause 8.13 of AS1210 (Australian Standard) requires at least one pressure gauge for each vessel fitted with a pressure-relief device. I cannot find this requirement in ASME Section VIII Division 1. I would like to confirm this thing with other members of this forum.

PEHasan.
Can we build a pressure vessel from SA240 TP 316L material with Duplex SS (UNS S31803) nozzles? If yes, what important things do we have to take into consideration while carrying out the design calculations? Also what electrode we can use for the welding of this composite vessel. Is there...
I am trying to find out the formula for the calculation of Blank Diameters for 2:1 Semi-Ellipsoidal, Torispherical and Hemispherical dished heads.
Please reply with full reference to the text (book or code).

Hi all!
Fabrication of 36" Pressure Vessel has been completed. This vessel has a support ring that is welded inside the vessel shell. This ring will support the tube plate.
Vessel is about to be hydrotested.
Just now we found out that we have to modify the support ring.
Can we machine...
I have a very interesting question to ask.
Your company have a very good working relationship with Company A. Your company also have a very good working relationship with Company B. But Company A and Company B both do not like each other.
Company A and Company B both are engineering...
ASME has incorporated the MSS-SP44 specification into B16.47 Series A and the API 605 Specification into B16.47 Series B. They have also added Blinds to these two specifications. You may note that these specifications include only Weld Necks and Blinds. For Slip-On’s over 24” you must refer to...
What is the code/standard that is followed for the manufacture of Long Weld Neck Raised Face (LWNRF) flanges?
The following dimensions of LWNRF flanges are as per ASME / ANSI B16.5 standard: -
- Diameter of flange
- Thickness of flange
- Raised face of flange
- Diameter of bolt circle
-...
What is the minimum size of nozzle that can be
welded to any pressure vessel? As part of good
engineering practice, we usually take 2 inch as the
minimum size for any pressure vessel. Is there any
clause in ASME Code that refers to this matter?
What is the minimum distance for any weld
proximity? To avoid HAZ (Heat affected zone), how much
minimum distance should be kept between the two
welds? As part of good engineering practice, we
usually keep a gap of 50mm between the two welds. In
UW section of ASME Section VIII Div 1, it is...
Can we weld WNRF (Weld Neck Raised Face) flange
directly on the Shell or Dished Head? In my opinion we
can weld WNRF flange only with set-on connection. It
will be difficult to weld WNRF flange with set-in
connection because of curvature effect. The other
thing is that we can weld WNRF flange...
