When a cylinder is used as a datum to clock (Example: Rack and pinion housing yoke bore)do you just use the center point of a circle or slice of the cylinder or use a line constructed from two separate circles of the cylinder?
Right now the instructions are find the smallest reading, zero the indicator and sweep then record the highest reading. That's TIR right? but the print says True position. Can I get TP using this TIR Gage? The part is sitting on the datums and there is a master.
While certifying MMC pins I noticed some differences to what I've always used as a formula to calculate the size of an MMC pin. I learned take the minimum hole size allowed then just subtract the positional tolerance.
Like this: Diameter 4.5 +/-.25 TP 1.50m [-A-][-B-][-C-] would have a pin...
Every hole or slot is toleranced to [-A-],[-B-]. [-B-] is a slot. [-A-] is a plane perp to the slot. How do I align the part for layout purposes? The part is 8 times longer then the [-B-] slot.
I have a product that is getting seven new holes added. It's more important that the holes be drilled in the center of their bosses (so the self tappers wont bust out the side) then the holes be positioned to [-A-], [-B-], [-C-].
Should I call each boss a datum tolerenced to A/B/C and then...
The axis of one hole, which is the datum, to another hole.
The feature control frame says 0.1 to [-A-],[-B-],[-E-]. A 42.5 Basic leads from diameter A-E to the perpendicular center axsis of the other hole.
For purposes of capability studies does the 0.1 mean the entire tolerance zone? And if...

Working on a part that has two true position feature control frames under one diameter. Both are identical except for the tolerence. The top frames tolerence is 1.25 the bottom frames is 1.00. Both are maximum material to
[-A-], [-B-], [-C-]. Why are there two boxes? The note covers 12...
