    EN14 150M19

I want to make a small guard for a trailer attachment that might experience artic temperatures -40 degs C. Will EN14 150M19 bar be OK for this or could it suffer brittle fracture. What would be an easily obtainable British alternative. Thanks in advance.

    Newbie

I don't do FEA, I'm only interested. Why in Cosmosworks Pro when you hit the study icon should the full list (freqency etc) flash up but then only show static. There are no drop down arrows that I saw to be able to obtain frequency.

    Cosmosworks Frequency

In Cosmosworks Professional when you click study, you get an icon that says static. How do you get frequency. I thought all the icons popped up not just static.

I'm making a handle from 20 square hollow tube that might be used in low temps -40C. Ordinary MS would suffice for the stresses but what spec would I need for the cold snaps (excuse the pun). 43D EE ? Anybody help? UK spec preferred

Hi grade bolt into softer material

I have a hi strength bolt (12.9) going into a cast steel body - (no I can't change it), if I work out the engagement length based on the relative UTS of the materials I get a factor of 2.4 x the engagement length of the correct "nut" so I can tighten it right up. All well & good but surely there...

    Homemade headphones

I'm trying to make a pair of big headphones for my metal detector. I've got a couple of small 49mm cone speakers Mylor 8 ohms 0.5W but they don't seem to want to work. I've also tried it on a sterio set without success. The cable I'm using is sterio but I've tried all combinations of wiring. Can...

    Diodes for 12v

I'm not an electrician so bare with me. I'm designing a simple circuit to operate warning lights and hydraulic valve solenoids and the circuit will only operate together if there is some sort of non return "valve" (diode?) in the line. Question - will a diode work for a 12v circuit, ie allow...

    Newbie & bolt preload

I'm interested but only playing at the moment. Does anyone know why after I load an IGES assy, it won't let me pick the bolts to add a preload. It shades the shank in half a surface as if it is not a solid, yet it was modelled as a solid by revolving.

    anti roll bar

Does anyone know where I can get info on anti roll bar "ends" manufacturers. Imagine an axle that lifts so much that the ends of any bar attached to it also have to move at relatively large (30deg) angles. Is there anything like rubber bearings or spring boxes that would allow this twist. I'm...

    Metalastic bushes

Anyone know the website address of Metalastic Bushes. I'm finding all the old mechanical household names cannot be found by searching because they've been taken over by the big corporate companies. Bugger the engineers, look after the shareholders.

Does the lug on a hydraulic cylinder or fork in the mating part usually have a bush, or does the pin locate straight to the metal (in cases where the movement might only be infrequent, say once per day) What do the rams that are used on JCB type machines have?
