I am about to make a system which includes a dc motor, a generator, and a battery. Basically when the dc motor turns it will also turn a generator and that will provide a current to recharge a small battery. That same small battery would then be used to power the motor.

My idea is to have an electric motor attached to a bike. What I need to know is if a magneto can be hooked up to the pedals/wheels/motor itself to automatically generate the needed electricity for the motor. It would be a self sustaining process that wouldn't require massive heavy batteries...
