Does anyone know what he tolerance is for out of plane rolling of a PEMB rafter?
I have a rafter that is apx. 48" deep, span of about 115' that has rolled out of plane
about 7/8" or around 1 degree, and I can't find any allowable tolerances for such a thing.
When designing embed plates at a column where the edge distance
is fairly small (4 1/2”@ 3/4” studs) what constitutes supplementary
reinforcement? The mode of failure will be edge break-out, specifically,
the corners will break away. I have #4 ties @ 3” o/c, but the ties only
extend about 2/3...
I am looking at a small storm shelter within a larger building. I am designing per
FEMA 361. I am considering reinforced masonry for the walls. When designing the
MWFRS using ASD method, I know that I use .6W in all of the load combinations.
When designing the reinforcing in the walls for out...
I am looking for a good seismic design reference, something based upon IBC 2003 and/or 2006. I would like something with worked examples. Any suggestions?
I am designing a small bank and I need to design a reinforced concrete vault. Does anyone know of any codes or standards governing the structural design of bank vaults?
We are designing cladding for a project in Ca. and we are required to use the Ca. Buildin Code. Are the seismic design provisions in the Ca. Building Code the same as in the 2000 IBC or the 2003 IBC or are there differences?
I need to verify the species and grade of existing roof joists. Any ideas on how to go about this? None of the local testing in my area are able to help.
I am looking at the design for a small storm shelter. For the roof system, I would like to use a 3 1/2" concrete slab over a metal deck. The design uplift exceeds the slab DL so I need to anchor the slab to the deck. I don't want to use studs on the joist because I would like to avoid...
I am designing a CMU bearing wall to support precast T's. I have never done this before. I am a little concerned about bearing the stem of the T's on the CMU. Is there anything special that should be considered? I am expecting a point load of about 31k per stem.
In the 2000 IBC, per table 1604.3, you are allowed to use 70% of the component and cladding wind pressure for deflection checks (footnote f). Does this foot note show up also in the New Jersey version of the 2000 IBC? Also, where can I get a copy of the NJ code?
I am looking for a good steel beam program. I would like something that will size multispan beams while considering various unbraced lengths at the top and bottom flange. Any suggestions?
Are you using Appendix D for anchor bolt design? This also applies to wedge type anchors, but as far as I can tell Hilti, Rawl, Ramset ect. have not done enough testing to meet Appendix D with all of their bolts. Right now, Appendix D does not apply to threaded fasteners or advesive anchors...
I do some foundation design for pre-engineered metal buildings. I am wondering what type of fee others are getting for this type of work. Usually, my hourly rate for this type of work dosen't generate enough money to cover the libility that I'm exposed to. I have heard of others using a per...
