Is there any way that I can calculate the properties of flow(in a pipe) after choke?
Let's assume I have a long horizontal pipe and the flow could be Adiabatic or Isothermal. Because of huge flowrate I have a choke somewhere at the middle of the pipe(and I can calculate that). But what would be...
Hi,
I am offering few courses in the oil industries for engineers here in Canada from four years ago. Now, I am planning to offer them in the States(TX)in near future and I want to do the required changes in my presentations. Regarding Units, do I need to get rid of all SI units and put them in...
I want to start to look around to find client for my engineering services(one-man company/consultant). Should I approach energy companies(like Conocophillips, Shell etc)or other engineering companies(like Bechtel, Fluor)?
Thanks
Hi,
In our project the acronyms used on P&ID for motor controls are:
XGM
XSR: run status
XCR: start stop command
XA: common trouble alarm
XA: L/R status
I found these acronyms in "instrumentation handbook" but there is no explanation for them. Can anyone please explain them for me?
Thanks
I want to launch a course for process engineers (in EPC industry)in the state. Which city is better to start? (I am aware of Huston, what else?)

I am not civil engineer and I don't want to design a trench-sump for an industrial building (Indoor Plant). But I am just wondering if there is a rule of thumb to estimate the number of required sump for such buildings. I have seen very small and very big buildings with only one sump! How do...
There is a discussion with my colleagues: Which one in more reliable: Instrument air (IA) or electricity?
The question raised when we were talking about the fail position of a switch valve which actuates by IA (energized by a solenoid).
Is there more chance of loosing IA or electricity?
Thanks...
I haven't seen much pressure control loops for liquid lines. There are few, and they are mainly related to protect an asset or for safety purposes (very similar to SIS systems).
Am I justified to say:" pressure control loops in liquid lines are few and mainly for protection and not for...
How can we decide if a pipe should be U/G or A/G?
As far as I know, A/G is the default because is cheaper. But for some specific reasons, it is better to do U/G. One of these reasons could be "protection", like fire water or potable water. Is that correct?
Regards
I know it depends of bunch of things, but is there a thumb rule which says: if your suspended solid is more than xx ppm, it is better to remove it (by bag filter etc.) before sending it through pipeline?
Pipeline is on a hill and slurry is in worst case 1% or 10,000 ppm.
Thanks
Does anybody have experience in business of offering workshops for engineers that can share?
I am not thinking about "edge technology" training, I am thinking about courses to cover gap for freshly graduated engineers.
Thanks

I know it could be a range because it is a function of couple of parameters.
Thanks

Is dead head acceptable in a multi stage centrifugal blower?(I mean blockage in discharge side)
I am familiar with dead head in centrifugal pumps and know it is not good for pump, but I am not sure about blower.
We have a blower in intermittent service with fixed flow rate.
Thanks for replies
Probably you will notice English is not my mother tongue.
I like to know if publishing a technical article in a popular magazine or writing a technical book help us to progress in our career or not.
I am asking this because I need to expend lots of my energy on this for success. I need to ask...
