Are there any concerns over using threaded connections between austenitic stainless and aluminum fittings for cryogenic service with a simple thread sealant such as Teflon tape?
Thanks for any input.
I found two interpretations in the latest volume ( 63 ) that pertain to normalizing P1 material, interesting. The interpretations are VIII-1-15-06 and 08.
06 Q- If a plate is normalized once at the mill and then is subsequently normalized again during manufacturing, does UCS 85 (c) require...
As many are likely aware the requirement for impact testing HAZ's in thicker materials changed with the 2013 Ed. UG 84 (g)(2)
Some of you may have seen Code Case 2235 but if not it may be helpful to know that it allows for the use of PQR's qualified by the old rules ( prior to 2013) thru 2017...
I'm having some difficulty in understanding the requirements for the heat treatment of test specimens as discussed in Par 3.4.3. Condition A is to be the actual Max temp - 25 F and 80% of the hold time. Condition B is actual minimum temperature + 25 F and 120% of hold time. For PWHT, I...
We're fabricating a structural component using x95 drill pipe which is roughly 1.25 Cr / .5 Mo and its welded to c.s. Max weld thickness is around 3/4". Would it be advisable to perform PWHT and if so at what temp?
Thanks,
QW 193 begins with ' When the applicable Code section requires the use of this paragraph...'
I've reviewed UHX and UG 20 without finding a reference to QW 193. Does anyone know which paragraph, if any, in Sec VIII requires a tube sheet mockup and testing per QW 193?
Thanks,
Does anyone know if the current version of Compress is set up to handle calculating reinforcement in accordance with the '09 Addenda, where split pads are used ?
Our engineer says that Compress does not allow the user to change the MDMT above -320F on an austenitic stainless design.
Does anyone know if there is a way to input a higher MDMT?
I'm looking at a customer drawing of a vessel built in 1966. Most materials referenced are 285 C but some are listed as A7. I suspect this A7 was a carbon steel structural spec probably roughly comparable to todays A36. Can anyone offer any insight?
Code paragraph UG 32 (d) says that the shape of a 2:1 head can be approximated by a head with a knuckle radius .17D, and a spherical radius of .90D. UG 81 (a) provides tolerances for formed heads and says that the knuckle radius shall not be less than that specified.
Is 'that specified' .17D...
I'm wondering how close one would expect results to be between portable Brinnel testing using a telebrinneller or equal, in accordance with A 833, and Brinnel testing in a stationary machine using a 3000 kg load?
I realize there's more variables in play with the portable test method, but...
I'm wondering if any members have had any experience with re rating a vessel by using UCS 68(c
In this case the customer would like to re rate their 70's vintage vessel, fabricated from SA285 GrC, from 44 F to 14 F, by way of PWHT.
How critical is time at temperature when normalizing carbon steel?
Specifically, if the mill supplies green material with test coupons normalized for 1 hour/ inch, and the fabricator normalizes the part for 1/2 hr / inch, is there reason to be concerned that the test coupons don't properly...
After a brief web search, it appears there are many courses offered. Can anyone make a recommendation as to a training course(s) offered in the US that will lead to accreditation as an auditor?
Due to some non-fusion problems I've experienced with pulse mig, I'm contemplating implementing a 'special' qualification test for welders using that process. I'm thinking about a mockup to simulate a nozzle attachment weld where the welder would have to make a circular weld, as in production...
There's no question that ASME Sec VIII Div 1 allows weld buildup under certain conditions. Specifically, it is allowed to 'restore' base metal for strength, and, for other purposes such as transitions in thickness.
My question is, does the Code allow a fabricator to take a piece of plate say 1"...
