Free body diagram and cylinder force help

This is not homework. I've taken some engineering classes so I'm familiar with the theory and terms. I've just never been good at applying it. I'm building a little enclosure with a pneumatic cylinder-actuated door. Need some help making the free-body diagram and force needed to open the door...

    ordinate arrow

How do I add an ordinate arrow to show which direction it is coming from? Chain adds chained arrows to all ordinate dims. I thought there was a way to just show a short arrow at the ordinate dim.

    FEA torque simulation

I'm making a custom wrench for personal use. For fun, I'd like to run an FEA and see if the wrench will fail. below is a similar wrench. A torque wrench is applied to the square hole. Where do I fix and apply the load? Should it be a torque or a force?

    Swept baffle

I need to have a baffle sweep around a nozzle opening in between 2 cylinders. The baffle is open on the bottom. I'm having a heck of a time trying to visualize it. I've attached a part file with the geometry and some screenshots of my attempt. The last screenshot it what it would look like...

    Macro modification

Posted this in the SW forum figured I'd try here as well. The attached macro counts hole wizard holes and returns the count in an excel file. How do I have it return the count in a dialog box? I assume this is...

    Forming dimension

We are rolling and bump bending some 11GA cone segments. We need to hold the OD as the cones fit into the ID of a rolled cylinder. I put the OD to hold but was told by the project manager that the ID was what they will check with a template and to change it. I believe I'm correct. I don't care...

    Piping Iso diagrams

Piping Iso diagrams are from the center of the pipe, correct? See attached sample.https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=1c853488-42cd-44ef-bd98-b8114e2cc370&file=Capture.JPG

    Shaft in vertical orientation

What are some common ways to retain a shaft in a vertical orientation? The particular application I'm looking at is a 40" dia heat treat furnace circulating fan rated at 1200rmp with a 2" dia shaft. Shaft collar, e-clips what other options are there?

    BOM units

We show a sheet metal parts flat pattern size in our BOM description. I link it to SW-Bounding Box Width and SW-Bounding Box Length. The problem I'm having is on the drawing BOM the units come up as fractional; we want decimal. The only way I've found to force the BOM to decimal is to change...

torsional deflection formula help (not homework)

First off this is not homework; I'm self-studying and Tooling U for CMfgT certification and am confused why the force for T1 in the attached problem is doubled. T1 = 4000 in-lb Thankshttps://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=485a3a4c-908d-4863-842d-3a3190d979fa&file=CMfgT_PRACTICE-EXAM.pdf

    Is this GDT&T Correct?

We received a fabrication drawing from a customer which states a machined V ring is to be flat and parallel to a datum A. I'm not sure that it can be flat and parallel since it is a ring. Is the callout correct? If not what is the correct GDT&T callout? Drawing attached. Thanks...

    Wear Strip material

I need a wear strip for a HRC 58-60 3/4" wide cam follower. The strip will be 1/4" thick by 1.5" x 30" LG. I was thinking of flame hardening to get it around HRC 60 but its thin so I think it will bend. Looking for other cost effective material ideas.

    Truncated cone

Having some issues modeling a sheetmetal cone. I can get a sheetmetal cone to unfold so I have a flat pattern but I can't figure out how to truncate it and get it to unfold. The diameters of the cone are 2" and 3" with a 1" length. Any help would be appreciated.

    crane rail alternative

I need to build an adjustable retainer like the attached picture. I can't find someone to supply a 6' section of 25# crane rail. All I can seem to find is 30' pieces. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on an alternative to crane rail?

    Hand crank right angle drive

I need to design some adjustable guides that will move on a lead screw with a hand crank. The problem I have is I don't have enough room to come straight out of the lead screw with a hand wheel. I need it to be 90 deg from the lead screw. I can't seem to find a right angle drive for a hand...

XYZ arrows/UCS disappear when using measure tool

In SW 2017 why does the XYZ arrows/UCS disappear when using the measure tool? Is this a bug? See attached picture. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=ea3f0ea4-470d-4e00-8032-ce64e38925d4&file=XYZ_Arrow_UCS_(3).jpg

    locating cone material

I need to get some locating cones made. In the past we have made them out of A2 and heat treated to 56-58Rc. I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative say 1045 or 4041 and flame hardened. Would that have similar wear? The cones are 6" dia x 1.5" high with a 30deg taper and will...

    Crop/trim components in view

I have a component that is shown as phantom in a view for visual and reference dimensions. I have some dimensions that overlap it can I crop out part of the component? Screen shot attached. The catch is it is an alternate position view or I would do a broke out section to remove a section but...

    cylinder sizing

Need help sizing a cylinder for an application, a little confused on calculating the force needed. We need to rotate a roller conveyor out of the way so a pallet car can pass by, drawing attached. We believe 2 pneumatic 4" bore cylinders with 24" of stroke and around 80psi will work. If any...

    Hand tool models

Does anyone have or know where to get models of hand tools? I got some off a post on solidworks forum, link below. We usually use larger (1" plus) box wrenches, sockets etc. the models in the solidworks forum only go up to 5/8". I have not been successful searching 3D content central. I just...
