A slab gate (in a dam outlet) is guided by bronze guide plates sliding on stainless steel guides. The gate jerks when it is operated, and I suspect this is caused by galling between the two materials.

We would like to know the value of the static and dynamic coefficients of dry friction between bronze and stainless steel. In our application the two sliding materials have a contact pressure of 20 MPa. The contact areas are machined surfaces.
