    zinc paint under insulation

I apologize if this topic has been discussed, but the search function is down and Google didn't pull up anything on this topic. A paint spec says for carbon steel, "When using inorganic Zinc under insulation, do not apply on piping or vessels operating between 50F and 250F as the zinc reverses...

    PRV vs. PSV vs. PSRV

Please clarify when to use a PRV, a PSV and a PSRV. Is the difference application specific or code specific? Please identify (PRV, PSV and PSRV) on the following ASME pressure vessels: Thermal relief valve on liquid containment: Thermal relief valve on gas containment: Fire relief valve on gas...

    Year Built

When does year built apply? The year it was designed or the year it was hydrotested? Or are we allowed to decide? TYIA, heaterguy

    vessel nozzle loading

If a customer gives Fx-500 pounds, Fx-500 pounds, Fz-500 pounds, Mx-1,500 foot-pounds, My-1,500 foot-pounds, and Mz-1,500 foot-pounds, do we apply all six forces at once, one at a time or just F or M forces? "Each vessel nozzle shall be designed for the following loads"

AC current in a parallel wye common?

Does AC current flow in a parallel wye common? For instance, you have eighteen wye resistor circuits and the common is connected with buss bar. Does current flow thru the buss bar between the eighteen circuits?

    new UL 508A KAIC ruling

Does someone on this board know about the newly effective KAIC rating of components inside of UL 508A panels? Our problem is the unrated solid state relays are now only rated for 5 KAIC. Accordingly, the newly effective UL 508A rules imply 5 KAIC is the rating of the panel with these relays. Of...

    UG-39

We fall into UG-39(b)(2) as far as spacing and hole size, but since we fill the holes with heater rods and weld the rods to the flat head, is it really an opening?

Anyone using CosmosWorks for seismic calculations?

How difficult is it to use CosmosWorks - dynamics version - to model seismic loading on horizontal and vertical pressure vessels? I have been told that it is a very specialized calculation that requires years and years of experience to perfrom.

A stupid ASME vs. ANSI question

I say stupid to kill myself before getting burnt from the flame throwing that's about to commence. ASME requires a safety factor of 3.5 for yield strength design vs. actual, right? Why then can ANSI flanges not have the same requirement? They seem to have a safety factor of one! TYIA, heaterguy

Low temp application for Incoloy 800

Will Incoloy 800 have any problem operating in -100 deg. F inside of a pressure vessel designed for -265 deg. F? The electric heater inside of a liquid blow down tank has an Incoloy 800 sheath.
