Hello Everyone,
This is a just a general question to the experts out there. In my experience running simulations using bonded contact with the penalty method in Ansys Workbench I have a lot of difficulty obtaining convergence if the forces at the bonded connection are tangential as opposed to...
Hello All,
Does anyone know if it is possible or if there is a workaround to model a non-linear spring in mechanism? It appears the spring rate can only be linear for a mechanism spring.
Not sure if some gurus out there have used custom load functions to accomplish the same effect.
Thanks...
Hello All,
I have an assembly that was provided to me that has some parts in it that have external shrinkwrap features. The problem is when trying to check into PDMLink the externally reference parts that pertain to the external shrinkwrap features show up as ghost objects (aka "incomplete CAD...
Hello All,
I have challenge on my hands that has had me puzzled for the last couple of hours. I am trying to simulate a wire cable in mechanism that goes around a pulley. I don't have to include any slack (even though in reality there will be).
A couple of thoughts I have had are to model a...
Hello All,
I have question reqarding idealzied springs that just came to mind today. Does anyone know if it is possible to apply preload to an idealized spring? I have searched around a little and don't seem to find where this can be done. I have a situation that requires me to apply preload...
Hello ProE Gurus,
I have an issue with the ProE model tree that has plagued me for years. I know that I can control the overall width of the entire model tree window through customization settings, but how can I control the column width that houses the actual model feature tree?
As one can...
Hello All,
Does anyone know if either ASME, SAE, ASTM, or any other body has an equivalent specification to VDI 2230?
VDI 2230 is a very detailed specification concerning the sizing of bolts. Just curious if there was another similar specification out there.
Thanks,
Steve

Hello All,
I have been scratching my head for the last hour trying to figure how on earth to insert a Pro/Engineer parameter into a Mechanism measure?
I am currently using WF4, however I looked around in WF5 and could see anything there either?
Any ideas or workarounds would be greatly...
Hello all,
I received a question today regarding the material specifications outlined in NFPA 58 2008 Ed. Section 5.12.1 and 5.17. Section 5.12.1 states that the material for pressure containing valves for LP gas systems needs to be ductile iron per ASTM A 395, malleable iron, steel, or brass...
Hello All,
Not sure what PDM/PLM system everyone uses out there, but have many of you had any experience with PTC ProductPoint. Any idea of the cost of product point verusus Intralink,PDMLink, or Windchill? Any feedback on the functionality differences you have experienced would be helpful as...
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to create a conformal mesh between a surface body and a solid. The application is a foam filled thermoformed plastic part.
The idea is that I would model the internal foam as solid elements such as tets or bricks and use shell elements to represent the 3mm top and...
Hello All,
Does anyone know how to relocate or move the various analysis cells in Ansys Workbench 12? I cannot readily see a way to relocate them. The default positioning for a project with multiple analyses is all over the place.
Thanks in advance,
Steve
Hello All,
With WB 2.0 from Ansys the user interface has been completely rewritten. However, I am having trouble trying to create a simple sensitivity plot whereby some result is plotted graphically in 2D versus some design variable.
In version 11 (or WB 1.0) this was fairly straight forward...
Here is a helpful tip I found on the PTC forums today on how to change the WF5 blue color to the WF4 tan:
"Finally, thhere is a setting ui_theme which by default is wildfire_5 but it can be set to standard to get the grey colors."
Much thanks to Mangus Salomonsson for posting this on PTC's...
Hello All,
Is it possible to create a 1 way porous region in CFX? Reason being, CFDesign has the ability to create a "check valve" domain, which is nothing more than a one-way resistance/porous domain.
Thanks,
Steve
Hello All,
CFX v12 just introduced a new feature called immersed solid. I have also heard this capability referred to as a superimposed mesh.
Does anyone know if Fluent has that capability as well? I have looked through the some of the help file provided by Fluent and they refer to sliding...
Hello All,
I just met with an inside Ansys sales person and he mentioned that the new version of Ansys v12 along with the newest version of the Intel processor will allow for parallel processing benifits beyond 8 processors.
According to the Ansys white paper "Obtaining Optimal Performance in...
Hello All,
Does anyone know they method on how to apply constraint equations or rigid constraints inside the Workbench interface? I'm stumped and I have googled the topic to death with no answers yet.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
Hello All,
I am sitting here scratching my head wondering if Mechanica's beam section polar moment of intertia (J) is incorrect.
For example, take a 2x2 inch square solid bar. According to hand calculations J = 2.667 in^4. Modeling the 2x2 solid bar in Pro/Engineer and analyzing the...
Hello All,
Has anyone had any sucess restarting a two-way coupled FSI analysis in Ansys? I try following the instructions in the CFX help, but the analysis either crashes due to extremely skewed elements in the Ansys analysis or the next time step has dramatically different results.
To me it...
