With the current upper market segment ABS units, what inputs do the ECU's require and why?
Obviously the wheel speed sensors are required, but why are some of the other inputs important?
Has anyone seen an ABS system retro-fitted to a vehicle not originally designed for it?
The reason I ask is that I have recently received information from a respected driver about a new vehicle he has just tested (sorry cannot disclose it). It has switchable ABS. With ABS braking was described...
Weber and Dell Orto have seemed to produce essentially similar products for some time. However weber seem to have followed some of Dell Orto designs with the more recent DCOE's.
The Aux venturi in model 150 and some 152 DCOE's have become long, full body Aux venturi's. Does anyone have any...
In a pushrod suspension, compressing the spring and damper via a bellcrank, much attention is placed on the bearings used in the bellcrank. In formula cars these bellcranks are in single shear and attach to the tub via a stiff post embedded into the tub.
With a different application, i.e. using...
I am in the process of making an attribute mockup of a individually constructed vehicle. I will be using a Mitsubishi 6G75 V6 engine and 5 spd manual gearbox. To get the drive output to the height I require I need to raise it 45mm. The simplest means is to tilt the engine/gearbox 12 degrees...
To follow on from the multi-hole thread: What are the detirmining factors in injector spray pattern selection. I was given the impression that the very fine atomisation of a modern multi-hole injector was A Very Good Thing (TM) and that when replacing an older single pintle design, this change...
Which cars currently or recently on the market use a multi-hole injector of around 25lb/hr rate at 70% duty cycle?
Bosch currently have a 12 hole injector in a local Mitsubishi 380/galant, but they are as helpful as a very unhelpful thing with unhelpful knobs on. So what else has been used...
I have accumulated some basic data on sporting car suspension. All are RWD with front or mid-engines.
Approximately 70% have a wider rear track and the remainder wider or equal front track. Switch to a racecar list and the percentage is reversed to 70% wider front track.
This racecar % could be...
WRT galvanic reaction between steel and aluminium alloy, is the rate of corrosion of the anode (alloy sheet) more affected by the mass of the cathode or the area of surface contact with the cathode Steel spaceframe chassis?
In a conversation with two well respected race engine builders recently both independantly mentioned that they are not using synthetic oil in some of their race engines. These engines are DOHC of OHC 8v 4cyl race engines with quite high and fast lifting camshafts. Both builders reported...
I am interested in plotting various suspension designs from productions cars to see what different manufacturers do with roll centre control, placement, camber gain etc.
I admit that this is mostly for my own education, however is anyone aware of a source for the A arm lengths, KPI, knuckle...
Will the epoxy resin used in an adhesive such as JB Weld benefit from an elevated post cure as other epoxy resin systems reportedly do? and if yes will it improve the actual adhesion properties as well as the general performance?
BTW JB Weld themselves have not yet answered this question.
I have recently tested 6 different ports on a flow bench at 25" H2O. The ports are known to have a poor short-turn radius that is too tight. The port modifications were attempts to overcome the flow seperation that occurs in the std port.
The std port flows:
in: .05 .1 .15 .2 .25 .3 .35...
It was suggested that prior to bonding Aluminium panels to a mild steel structure, both of the surfaces should be bead blasted and then treated with silane. Does anyone have any experiences with Silane?
I would like to calculate the port speed in an engine at different rpms. I am aware of the equation (bore*bore/port dia*port dia)*mean piston speed. However when I use this I get port speeds of 162m/s @ 7000rpm which seems way too high. The results from the equation seem incorrect, but is there...
What the effective adhesives for bonding 5052 Al sheet 1mm thick to mild steel shs with a room temp cure. So far adhesives have focused on the usual Sikaflex products and some Epoxy resins. Has anyone got experience of structural acrylics for such a purpose? Mechanical fixing will also be used...

clain good performance and they are certainly an unusual thing to hold in your hand, with such slim fins and tight tolerances.
Can anyone suggest some shortcommings from such a design? How would such a system avoid the...
Looking at an old 1960's formula 1 dry sump pump the other day and wondered when the transition was made to the 'rotor' style pumps.
Also wondered if the gear pumps were able to perform at a similar level as far as oil pressure/volume/scavenging of crankcase.
Can someone educate me on the...
Intake port Reynolds numbers seem to be well in the turbulent range and not laminar (though they may be smooth and well formed). It has been suggested to me that this turbulent flow may have some advantages (over laminar) for fuel homoginisation, is this a reasonable suggestion?
Also the port...
