Does anyone have any details on this?
It is a decking with 380mm (15") wide pans, flat between the ribs (no additional stiffening formed between the ribs).
It is called up as 'steel decking, plain panels MK.1' on a 1970 Hydro TAS drawing. Section shows dovetail rib shape similar to Bondek.
Thanks

"mux = mx + k|mxy|
muy = my + k-1|mxy|
where k is typically taken as k = 1. Here mux and muy include both the normal and torsional components of the moments."
Does the above mean that muy = my ? (as k-1 = 0)
Is there a reason why mxy is added to...
Section 8.4 has changed in the 2009 edition.
I'm not confident when determining the design shear stress, specifically what to use for 'beta' and 'z'.
Has anyone had this explained at a seminar or similar?
Thanks, John
Does anyone know if the specifications for this machine 50 years ago are the same as the current specifications?
Also, what equivalent hammer drop height to use in the Hiley formula?
I've got the old (50 yr)piling records and am trying to determine capacity.
Thanks, John
Does anyone have experience with using/specifying Excalibur screwbolts to fix the bracing props?
By the National Code of Practice deformation controlled, including self-drilling, anchors are forbidden.
The Excalibur is a bolt that cuts a thread into the concrete and the manufacturer claims it...
I 'know' that the minimum grade is 20 MPa (although I only use 20 MPa for houses) but is this minimum stated in an AS standard anywhere?
We've been given the task of assessing the effect of 13 MPa concrete as supplied instead of N32 as specified.
I'd like to cut to the chase and say it can't...
I need to determine the capacity of existing bracing so that I can match it.
The existing bracing members are 2 - 152x152x10 Angles, starred. These are arranged in the normal cross, in addition to horizontally at mid-height (refer attached).
Bay size is approximately 6.5 x 6.5m.
I suspect that...

"The 2002 (limit state) code specifies that a 2000 year wind event is used for ultimate design"
AS/NZS1170.0 refers us to the BCA for probability of exceedance to be used for design.
BCA table B1.2 directs us to use 1:500 for wind for 'normal' buildings.
Is there a...
The equations for both flange and web thickness checks include the dynamically factored wheel load Nw.
As most trolleys have 4 wheels I typically use;
(dyn. fac. hoisted load + hoist + trolley)/4.
What I don't understand is that the wheel longitudinal spacing is not accounted for. I would...
I'm slightly apprehensive about using cast-in inserts (ferrules) for moment transfer across the precast-insitu joint for a precast wall panel with an insitu base.
Attached shows the detail I'm considering, with the wall used as a retaining wall.
Is it appropriate to use the full insert...
I have circular concrete tanks, 7 metres high, sitting on stiff to very stiff alluvial sandy clay, medium to high plasticity.
I'm assuming that there will be some vertical movement as the tanks are filled and emptied.
The tanks are located within a bunded area with a concrete slab floor.
Does...
I'm looking at using precast concrete panels, approx 8m high x 3 m wide, cantilevered from the base.
Are there any recommended clever methods of achieving a fixed base? At this stage I would consider both; footings cast before and cast after the erection of the panels.
Thanks.
For estimate purposes I'm looking for likely concrete thicknesses for a buried pump pit, 6.5 m deep, 6 m diameter.
I need wall and floor thickness.
Does anyone have this information at hand?
Thanks.
Is there any merit in the modification as shown in the attachment?
The detail is one that I've inherited and it's been used before, but I don't like it.
We are required provide additional clearance for new equipment adjacent to the column, hence the cut-out.
It appears to me that the angle of...
I've got a problem where the increased thickness of a connection plate increases the overall eccentricity of the joint, thereby causing the failure of the other plate.
The attached should clarify what I'm trying to explain. It's the fixed base moment of the thinner plate which is theoretically...
The previous edition, AS1418.1-1994, specified what wind speed the in-service wind load should be based on. This was typically 20 m/s.
The current AS1418.1-2002 now only requires that the wind force is based on AS1170.2 (now AS/NZS1170.2).
Is there a consensus on how the in-service crane wind...
There are double stud with cavity acoustic walls in a multi-unit residential timber framed building we are designing.
Due to lack of bracing walls we need to share the lateral loads between adjacent units.
Is there a recognised method to transfer the shear load across the wall without...
I'm checking calculations for turnbuckle selection, using LRFD (well, the Australian version of it).
Applied tension is therefore factored.
Turnbuckle capacity is in service load WLL (working load limit). WLL is 40% of proof load and 20% of ultimate strength.
The designer has shown that the...
