Previous to SW 2009 I was able to go into the Drawing View Properties and select a different configuration of the assembly and select the check box “Link balloon text to specified Bom” then hit the click down and select the Bill of Materials. I’m not sure what changed but I can now see it but...
Would it be acceptable to use Profile on coplanar surfaces with respect to a datum surface that is perpendicular? Basically treating that profile tolerance like perpendicularity to those surfaces. I’ve seen it done with basic profile but wasn’t sure about it when applied to coplanar surfaces...
Can anyone help me come up with a reasonable, manufacturable, flatness tolerance to call out on Mic-6 Cast Alum plate that is 16" x 22" and 1" thick? From the manufacturer I believe it is close to .005" but they talk thickness and not flatness. I am figuring on .003 but the flatter the better...
Ok I am not old old school because I didn’t start on the board but has anyone else noticed the degradation of drawing standards? I think this really boils down to the use of CAD. Now that most packages have become easier to use (unlike the early versions of Pro E & MDT) I think more people are...
On drawings is there a preferred or standard for tangent edge visibility on drawings. Me personally I try to omit tangent edges (especially when they are solid lines) because I think they can add confusion to drawing interpretation and when I find it necessary will put the tangent edges in as...
On page 182 of ASME Y14.5, 1994, it show a perpendicullarity callout relative to 2 datums. Datum A primary and datum B secondary. If I am setting up a gage to check this do I pick up the whole surface of datum B or can I use two points and use it basically for clocking. (I never knew you...
Any recommendation on the page file size on my 64 bit system? I have about 56 gigs free on my HD. I will never use more than half of that.
thanks in advance
I was hoping someone could help me. I've been looking high and low for a 4-way (side to side, front to back), manual, linear slide that I can use for fixturing a part to tap 4 holes. I've seen these before, It's looks like one unit stacked on another allowing this motion. Anyone have any idea...
I was curious how other would handle a building layout. There is really no need to be 3d. Should I do everything in the drawing with maybe Blocks ala ACAD or make thin models and putinto an assy and get my top view. Just curious how other would do this.
Thanks in advance
I made a derived part and after the fact I needed to add configurations to the parent part. Is there anyway to have the derived part change it’s base part to one of the new configurations. It appears as though it will only load the parent part in its default state.
Looking for any advice/help on the following issues I am having. First one is that my toolbox has to be added in each time I start up. This is a local toolbox. Second problem is under system options, sketch, realitons/snaps - Automatic Relations keeps unchecking itself. Any ideas? Thank you...
Here is the error message I get when starting up SW.
"The Use Software OpenGL option has been enabled because of a recent configuration change. Click Connect for more information."
This is the first time I have seen this. I know of no configuration changes that happened the day before. I...
Has anyone figured out how to control when SW use THRU or THRU ALL when using the Hole Wizard. For me personally, I never use THRU ALL unless I am going thru multiple walls. Apparently since SW 2001 I’ve yet to get this down.
Thanks in Advance
Does anyone have any advice on dimensioning datum targets on drawings? Sometimes I’ll get a few dimensions in and crash and other times I can’t even dimension to them - even with the filter on. I think SW needs to do some serious work here.
Thanks in Advance

Is anyone aware of a standard or other information that discusses the use of applying draft with the dimension? Example - .500 +3 DEG DRFT. I understand what I read but question the method versus dimensioning the draft separately. If this is common practice and legal in the drafting world than...
Does anyone know where I might find a XP driver for a Spaceball 2003? It is no longer supported by 3Dconnexion. Recently upgraded to XP (some upgrade, yuk!) and my spaceball no longer can find the driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I recently worked with a Jobber who mated holes with coincident mates – Axis to Axis. At the time I thought good idea…until after he left and I had to go back into his work and troubleshoot some mating issues and all I see are coincident mates. It’s not terrible but probably took me a bit...
I am considering taking a new job. The only dilemma is that I would no longer get to use Solidworks. This company does a lot of Aerospace work and therefore uses Unigraphics or UG NX2. Does anyone out there know what I would be up against? The learning Curve? I have used Solidworks almost...
