Hi Folks
We have just changed over from one CAD system to AutoCAD 2008 LT. (Yes I know its not 2008 yet...but AutoDesk seem to always be one year ahead--they must operate a different calender to everyone else)
I can't seem to insert or configure a polgonal viewport in paperspace. It only lets...
Hi Folks
Tucky here
Still working on the holiday resort job in Antigua
Just a thought,--- can anyone tell me if the equipment used in the USA/Antigua area has compatible pipe threads, flanges etc as we use in the UK
We use metric (although we still refer to 1" pipe, 2" pipe etc, but we also...
Hi Folks
I am doing a holiday village with restaurant/small hotel in Antigua
I thought I would start this new thread as the old one is not relevant to this problem (See thread on 'water' problem )
Has anyone done a domestic sprinkler job. We don't get them in the UK, they tend to be...
Hello fellow engineers
I have a problem that needs some serious thought.
We are involved with a new holiday facility in Antigua.
It comprises of about 25 holiday homes and restaurant (each home will probably contain 4 or 5 people)
The island appears to have a low rainfall and water is at a...
I am interested to know how buildings are constructed in hot humid climates. (Jamaica, Bermuda, Antigua)
Is it beneficial to insulate them against heat or is that a ridiculous statement.
My theory is that if you have a poorly insulated concrete or wooden roof, it will let more heat in.
So by...
We have been asked to design for a hotel in Antigua
Does anyone know what codes of practice they work to here
i.e. CIBSE Guides, British Standards etc. or is design based on US standards.
Also what voltages do they have here
Also where is most of the equipment purchased from. Is it the US...
I am currently working for a client who wishes to use renewable energy.
Whilst I would like to think that I am a 'green' engineer, I am finding it difficult to find a suitable renewable energy source.
I am sure that there are plenty of systems out there, but in the UK climate, I am finding it...
I have a feeling this might stir things up a bit, but my old University lecturer used to say that Rudolf Diesel didn't build the first 'Diesel type' engine.
Can anyone spread more light on this, or was he wrong?

Can anyone tell me if it is 'normal' to air condition a kitchen (In the UK
I have been asked to condition a kitchen, but over 25 years it is something that I have only come across once.
Is this a 'London' thing.
Likewise I would be interested to see if it is common overseas.
Incidentally...
We do ventilation designs to lots of hospitals in the UK. One thing that has always puzzled me is the HTM2025 Hospital Technical Memorandum concerning ventilation and filters.
Surprisingly (To me anyway), there does not appear to be any preferred filtration efficiency requirement for operating...
Just a puzzling question here--I wonder if anyone has ever noticed this strange physical characteristic of a helium balloon.
One day I was in my car driving home from the local fair when I noticed that the helium balloon thatone of my children had was doing something that didn't look right.
As...
I have been asked to look at conditioning a number of large rooms and also to humidify tham.
The rooms need 100% fresh air (Smoking areas--night club/casino etc)
The airflow rates are varied but I have four plants in excess of 12m3/sec.(one is nearer 17m3/sec)
What is the best way to humidy...
Can anyone tell me if there is a standard pressure differential requirement for clean spaces. I work on 15Pa with an alarm setting of 10Pa.
One of our clients insists that it is 15Pa minimum (i.e. alarm status) so we need to control/aim for to 20Pa.
I think anything over 20Pa would make the...
Has anyone got any decent info on thermal lag and the effects on the buildings heating/cooling system.
I am working on a job where the client wants to do some 'new' things i.e. avoid cooling or at least reduce it by using the buildings natuaral ability to absorb heat into the structure.
I...
Can anyone tell me why there are so many clean room standards.
Everyone knows the American Fedaeral 209 class 1, class 100, class 1000 etc. but there are many many more. i.e. GMP Good manufacturing practice etc. which seem to use variants of the federal strandard.
Do we really need more than...
I have an in line filter rated at 99.999% (DOP)H14 grade which appears to be letting a lot of 0.5 micron particles through.
The filter is a well known (very well made) bit of kit and so we don't think it is a problem with this.
The filter is new, the system is new. The filter has a gasket seal...
Has anyone got any experience with evaporative cooling. I need to know where it can be used and where it is not suitable, also the pros and cons..
How much does it cost (how long is a piece of string you might say)...but comparativeley.
Will I need special water treatment, softened water or...
We are about to get involved in designing services for a garage which will include a car wash facility..i.e. drive in, sit back and wait for the scrubbers to scrub and the driers to dry etc.
Has anyone got any typical water flow requirements. I understand they take a lot of water. Also do we...
Hi Folks
I've just had 11 terminal HEPA filters out of 16 FAIL on a DOP test. The filters seem OK but the gel seal seems to fail.
The gel is about 14mm deep and the knife edge seems to seat into it ok...but there is leakage around the edges of the filter.
we can't understand it and neither...
Hi Everyone
Having done a few clean rooms...like many, I rely on the filter manufactureres to guide me as to the level of filtration required to achieve a particular 'class' of clean room.
For instance, a class 10,000 clean room might need 30AC/hr at a filter level of 99.99% (I made that up so...
