Any know of a test lab that can cycle springs?
I would like to know the life of a spring at X amount of cycles.
USA only please.
The spring load is around 500 lbf
Will straightening cast steel cause internal stress?
Our supplier is proposing the following process.
Cast steel part, heat treat to hardness spec, and then straighten the part in a form.
Is this going to introduce internal stress that will relax over time?
Is this a standard process for cast...
I am trying to define torque and preload requirements for threaded tubing.
I am using standard fastener equations to determine pre-load at a particular torque value.
I used standard fastener equations to determine the tensile stress area. I then subtracted the area that is considered hollow...
Just wondering if anyone knew why ANSI specs now are designated as ANSI/ASME B18.2.1 or just plain ASME B18.2.1
Was there a transistion somewhere.
I am looking for the ANSI spec, but it is actually located on ASME website.
Just wondered.... I know they are the same specs.
I am trying to see if this is an acceptable combination?
Class 3A has a tighter tolerance then a class 2A.
But is the 3A tolerance always within a 2B?
Is this acceptable attachment?
Or should I force my customers to use a 2A bolt with a 2B nut.
I have some 1/2" plates there were welded together with 1/4 fillet welds.
I probably should have welded them with 3/8" or 1/2" fillet welds.
Can I put another bead ontop of the initial?
Or is this just not possible.
The material is ASTM A572 Grade 50
I have a 1/4" plate that is welded to a 1/2" plate.
The 1/4" plate is subjected to a vibration type fatigue load.
The current weld is 1/4" fillet all around the 1/4" plate.
Our supplier is actually oversizing the weld and is looks to be about 5/16"
Both plates are ASTM A572 Grade 50
Looking...
I am trying to calculate the deflections when a 4140 bar is loaded.
Do the properties change when it is heat treated to around 35 Rc?
I am guessing I would adjust the Youngs Modulus.
any suggestions?
Anyone have the new release of mechanica?
There is a "new" fastener feature.
I have not been able to get it to work without an error message.
"The inner contaction surfaces of the fastener are too far apart. You will probably need to create free connections between the fastened parts."
I...
I am looking at some data for an existing gear we are using.
It is defined as a standard Stub Tooth gear.
(it currently mates with another stub tooth gear)
Is "stub tooth" considered a standard gear type?
Is the 'stub tooth" utilized to reduce wear on high loads?
Reduce wear due to gear...
When we currently check files out of commonspace, it was leaving "intent to modify" on the files.
this caused other users to see an error message when using an assembly with the same part. (with no intention to modify it)
In the intralink options we set the status as "clear" when we check...
I have rod that must actuate a rotating lever. The interface between the rod and lever must have rolling/sliding contact.
I currently have a clasp and “bearing rod” on the end that interface with the lever.
There will be a limited amount of rotational movement on the “bearing rod”.
Since the...
I am looking into taking the PE exam.. but first I have to start with the FE exam...
Anyway. I have been doing some searches, and have just been finding advertisement companies with study guides and classes..
Is there an official website for FE and PE exams?
Are these specific to each state...
I am running Mechanica with Wildfire, integrated mode.
I create a new directory for each FEA I run.
The materials I create during one session is not brought up in the next session (if I change the working directory)
Is there a way to specify one material library file, in one location.
This...
I have a cylinder that needs to be pressurized with air.
My standard setup has a 50psi air hose direct into the cylinder. This gives my standard "X" fill time.
My modification will re-route the hose, using adapters and fittings.
Assuming I don't reduce the cross sectional area of...
This is hard to describe what I am trying to do.....I will simplify it some.
I have a plate that will push on an I-beam.
There are no physical connections, (bolts or welds)
This should allow the thick plate to remain stiff, while the I-beam deflects.
If I run the FEA with Pro/e defaults, it...
Can someone give me some examples of Standard through hole call-outs.
I use GD&T on most call-outs.
Usually a true position.
Here is a Typical dimension on a 4 hole pattern.
ø.500±.006
THRU HOLE
4X
Is "4X" standard? or is "4 HOLES"?
Is "THRU HOLE" standard? I...
I am looking for a current book dealing with weld strength calculations.
Dealing with Steel, structures.
If it matters... they are in the railroad industry.
thanks
I am using pro/weld to create symbols on the drawing.
The current symbols place a numeral in the reference section. I would like to change this to a reference text.
Such as "4X" or "see note 2"
Any suggestions?
Is there a general rule in using washers or lock washers with nylock type nuts?
In a structural, vibration enviroment?
Mating material is steel, fastener grade 8.
