Is there any good link describing a large compressor motors ( 5000-6000 HP) in my case applied in petrochemical industry.
Also I would like to now who is manufacturer of these motors.
Design prepared by another company provides with a coil 24V DC. plus two auxiliary contacts 120 VDC and two auxiliary contacts 240 VAC .
Something is wrong there. Generally how to solve that problem ? ( according NEC)
For the motors 100HP and 300HP, 48o Volts size of the breakers has been determined. Now we have a new information including FLC currents ( lower than conventional)
100HP, 48o Volts with FLC=110A
300HP, 48o Volts with FLC=335A
Can we use 200A and 600A breakers ?
Canadian Electrical Code 2006 is introducing a couple new changes. Ones of these are Secondary Seals.
Rule 18-002 ...Secondary Seals are designed to prevent flammable process fluids entering the electrical wiring system upon failure of a primary seal. These devices prevent passage of fluids at...
Is it necessary to provide Cable Ampacity Derating factors for the ambient temperature of 105 deg.F or 40 deg.C inside Chemical Plant Building. ( conductor 90degC)
I am in Canada where Canadian Electrical Code provides factors 0.87-0.90 but other engineers are not accepting that idea.
Thanks.
For large Capacitor Banks, like 300MVA, 69kV a special breaker must be used - SF-6, vacuum, oil C.B. etc.
What is going on for the capacitor bank 300kVA, connected to MCC 600Volts ? What type of breaker must be used ?
For the calculation of the 200kVA Capacitor Bank Cable Size
I started by :
Amp = 1.35 x 200 kVA / 1.73 x 600 Volts
After that, that Amp I multiplied by 1.25
Some people working with me is is trying to say that we don't need a another multiplication (by 1.25), what I can not accept.
Please...
Because of explosions, Grain Elevator area is very dangerous area. In my case I have Industrial Plant with corn grain as raw material, where bolt conveyors are used for transportation of that raw material. That is open area, but provided to be classified as Division 1 . How far to go with...
We have to prepare for a small contract in Quebec - a small chemical plant.
We are preparing to buy CEC-Canadian Electrical Code with an amendment for Quebec. Is it enough for the electrical works in that province...? I am discussing about differences between Canadian and "Quebec Code" ?
Thanks.
I need a links about - Ethanol Plant Hazardous Area Classification.
I have to start work on Instrumentation and Controls as Electrical Engineer, but Hazardous Area Classification is also coming on my desk one day.
Thanks.
Industrial Power System provides five transformers 13.8 / 0.6 kVolts - 2000kVA - 3pcs, 225kVA - 1pce, 150kVA - 1pce,
(a) 2000 kVA transformer has 1926 Amps on secondary side, but 3000 A bus is connected there with 3000 A main breaker.
(b) also, 150 kVA transformer has 144 Amps on secondary...
How full Cable Tray is full ?
The fundamental rules are mechanical forces defining Cable Tray Support and percentage of the cable fill (40-50% by NEC).
Here in Canada is very important to reduce Cable Ampacity depending from the space between installed cables. ( CEC and OSEC) That is my...
I have to follow Canadian Codes CEC and OSCE and I have two questions:
(1) For the 600 Volts Switchboard inside Industrial area I provided always 2 ground wire to make a loop with an existing Main Ground. Now I am trying to follow "American Design' for the construction here in Southern...
Who is doing Protection Coordination Study here in Southern Ontario Canada.
System what we have is very small 5-6 nodes only, and we have to coordinate 5KV fuses with 600Volts MCCB's.
Thanks.

The Engineer from my Company is informed from the Electrical Inspector of Ontario that - the Cable Armour of the Power TECK Cable can be treated as a PROTECTION BARRIER,and Power and Communication Cables can be installed on the same Cable Tray.
Is there any Canadian or American Electrical...
Can we consider an cable armour of the TECK cables as a some kind of barrier, and install power and comununication cables on the same cable tray ? What American and Canadian Standards say about that ?
UFER Ground is a conception of the Grounding where rebars -reinforcing bars from the concrete foundation have been used as a part of the grounding.
Is anybody knows anything about an application of UFER Grounds here in Canada. I didn't find any information in Canadian Electrical Code plus...
Is anybody knows for small software for short circuit calculation. I have always a small systems: 20-30 nodes.
after that I have to do protection coordination based on fuses and C.B.s. I am not working for HYDRO UTILITIES and I don't need softares for 3000 nodes !!!
