    using 2 legs of 208 3 ph to supply a VFD 120 vac 1ph input and 230 v output...

We have had motor and or vfd failures when customers use 2 legs of a 208 vac 3 phase system to supply our machines.... we state 230 single phase 4 wire I know there are phase issues, etc but trying to explain that to my bosses is difficult.... Help?

natural gas 2" pipe 10 psi

we have a customer that has a 2" diameter sch 40 pipe at 10 psi, it runs well over 100' with lots of elbows, etc. then it is stepped down to 1-1/4" diameter reducer to a pressure regulator, to drop the 10 psi down to 7" wc (which we recommend doing it in 2 stages) and the outlet is 1-1/4" to...

Dual Voltage Machine Design for Euro/NorthA

I have an dryer, that runs on 220 1ph 60hz with a neutral (2 hots, 1 neutral). And they want to be able to take that unit and be able to use that same unit in Europe (which is 230 1ph 50hz - 1 hot and 1 neutral). From what is understand, it cannot be done easily thru a transformer. And...

Pulse counter turns on timed relay depending on number of pulses

Working on a project with a pulsed output, 50 ms on 50 ms off stays high on pulse is done ex. if i have 5 pulses i want to trigger a relay for 5 minutes if i have 1 pulse, the relay would be active for 1 minute, etc Is there such an animal without going to a plc? Paul

Lighted Breaker Switch, what is too much protection?

controlling a simple fluorescent light (max draw on startup is 0.9 amps), we have been using a 7 amp light breaker switch for eons, anyways the 7 amp version is back ordered, but we have 10 amp versions in stock should i be looking at a 3 amp or can i look at it like house wiring, where i have...

pid control, 4-20 or 1-10 vdc?

we have an application that has 1 temp controller and 2 modulating valves. 1 valve is 6 feet from the controller, the 2nd is 25 feet from the controller not having been involved in this design, i was asked to see why 1 valve was behaving proper, but the one further away was not working at all...

    Easy to program HMI/PLC combo

Unfortunately i have run into a host of terrible comm issues between 2 vendors - standard rs232 (whatever standard is) now, i have a linear servo motor controller, ethernet, rs232, windows xp software compatible i have tried a plc/touch screen (which i am ready to throw out) A simple 2...

Linear motor, actuator - Contamination??? Magnetic Particles

I am specing out a linear motor. there is going to be a lot of fine ferrous metal particles and i am concerned with the magnetic properties of some of the drives, that the motor will be a huge magnetic science experiment. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks in advance PA

2 channel input 2 bit binary ouput

this is for a programmable controller. in order to select 1 of 4 available programs, we need to have a 4 position rotary switch and provide 00 01 10 11 binary output. of course the controller supplier cannot specifically tell us what to purchase i have looked a rotary BCD's rotary dips etc...

    OVER TEMPERATURE SAFETY CIRCUIT

There has been a concerned raised regarding the placement of a snap disc temperature control switch should be. We are using a standard temp controller on one side of a n/o set of contacts is a timer and the other side is an SSR connected to a heating element main power feeding the controller...

Maximum wattage allowed for 110 vac outlet

We have seen some 1650 watt heaters that run on 110 vac. That is 15 amps of draw. I thought legally you could only have 12 amps of current draw on a standard outlet. i.e. 12 amp vacuum cleaner Unless you installed 12 ga. wiring and 20 amp breaker. Is this wrong? Paul

    Heating Element-Wattage requirement

I am trying to calculate what wattage heating element should be used to heat air from 65 deg F to 190 deg F in 3 to 5 minutes. The volume of air is 20 cubic feet. It is totally enclosed and insulated. There is an internal circulating fan to "move" air around the chamber. I have quickly...

    Winding Resistance Fractional HP Motor

We had an issue back tracing some wires through a terminal strip. There are 4 - single phase 110Vac 2 pole motors, each hot wire connected to an individual terminal. Neutral/Common are all connected on a busbar. What occurred when i did some continuity tests with a multimeter, was if i put 1...

Motor Quality Issues, Fact or Fiction

Good morning, 1) Is it normal for a 1/2 HP TENV single phase motor to run 320 degrees fahrenheit under no load and is it a fair comparison to test a motor under no load? 2) If a motor runs this hot and it is considered normal, wouldn't using high temperature insulated wire be prudent? 3)...
