    Straightness Tolerance Box

Hello, Today I saw a tolerance box for straightness which had a tolerance of .005/1 RFS. I guess it means the part must be straight within .005 per inch. Does anyone know where in the ASME Y14.5 it allows this? I was unable to find it.

    Question about DOD-MIL-STD-100

Hello, Would anyone know if DOD-MIL-STD-100 drawing interpretation contains a reference to ASME Y14.5 or any other tolerancing and dimensioning standard?

    Composite Layup

Hello, Does anyone know of a good reference text, standard, or instruction on how to draft and tolerance composite structures (eg. fiberglass panels, carbon fiber & resin etc...).

    Dimension to Intersecting Corner

Hello, Question about ASME Y14.5. When a drawing is dimensioned to a sharp point of two intersecting surfaces or planes and there is a note on the drawing requiring break edges, how does the inspector know (from the ASME Y14.5) to inspect to the broken corner or the point in space where the...

    Wrench and Socket Clearances

Hello, Does anyone know a good specification (SAE, ANSI, ASME....) for specifying wrench/tool/socket clearances required to maintain proper access?

    Orientation question

When I specify a Parallelism and/or Angularity is it necessary to specify a distance(parallelism) or an angle(angularity)? In my case I am locating two parts to each other which will be welded in place. In the case of the parallelism there are two surfaces which require to be parallel, but...

    Profile -Chained Dimensions- Stack up

If I have several chained dimensions, each defined with a basic dimension and a profile tolerance. Is the last dimension cumulative (sum of the basic dimensions + the worst case profiles) or can I just add all the basic dimensions in the chain and apply the profile once to the last edge? Robert

    Included angle

Does anyone use the expression "included angle" or "included" on drawings when describing angles?

Help with lining up hole with groove

Hello, On a thick walled pipe there is a radial groove on the inside of the pipe. The groove is dimensioned by a radius and the depth is defined by a dimension outward from the inner diameter of the pipe to the top of the groove. The radius is larger than the dimension from the inner wall so the...

    Min dimension in View

Hello, Question about Min dimension in view. On the drawing there are two concentric diameters shown in a cross section view. There is a Min dimension between the two diameters. The Min does not state ALL Around. How would I know if the MIN is specified at that particular location or if it is...

    Question about Datums

Hello, If I have a geometric control box(perpendicularity) located to "A", "B", & "C" where "A" is a surface(three point contact) and "B"(two point contact)is a diameter, and "C"(last datum 1 point contact) is a diameter. How is the datum established if diameter "B" is not 90 deg to surface...

    Contribution MMC on Datum

Would anyone know of a good book that explains how to calculate the contruibution of the MMC on second and third datum boxes? I have a True Position where datum A is the flatt surface and datum B and datum C have the M behind them. I understand that these would establish a functional gauge to...

    Glide distance on Bicycle

Hello, Is there any standard to determine the glide ratio of a bicycle? I was looking for a standard which would be like: a bike loaded with rated load allowed to glide down an angle slope of a certain surface roughness and measuring the distance the bike went. Robert

    Using 3D Model Geometry

Is anyone using 3D model geometry in lieu of drawings and does it work better than drawings? I believe the standard is ASME Y14.41-2003. Robert

    Is the top hole oval?

I am having difficulty understanding a section of GD&T. I have a flanged pipe with a boss on the side. The hole in the boss is located with a basic dimension and a true position in which Datum C is a hole in the flange at an angle relative to the top hole. Because the size of the C datum is...

    Stack up with cones difficulty

I am stacking up a series of axial dimensions and have encountered a difficulty. Any help would be appreciated. There are two cones (inside and outside cone) of the same basic angle which will be assembled together. Each cone has a basic angle, and a basic dimension from a vertical face to a...

    Error Message

When I use Catia R10 drafting I get and error message that says: "A Check of Active Document Will be Done". After this message appears my computer stalls and eventually gives a timed out error which cancels my Catia session. Would anyone know what causes this error? Thx Robert
