    Tank Fire Statistics

Can anyone direct me to a source or sources of statistics on tank fires, rim fire, and loading rack fires? Either percentage based, or quantity. I'd like to see what percentage or how many/year of each occurs, to help make decisions to the importance of the various systems.

    Ethanol "Sheen" in Containment Dike

Has anyone seen feedback from EPA or local DEP/DEQ organizations that address the applicability of the "oil sheen" test used for containment dike discharge (NPDES), and the fact that ethanol does not produce the "sheen"? How would an operator verify lack of ethanol product in the contained...

    Storage Tank Fire Hazard Analysis

A local jurisdiction fire marshall has asked us to, as a portion of permitting, submit a Fire Hazard Analysis on the proposed installation of two ASTs - heat output, risk to adjacent tanks, fire probabilty, overfill probability, etc. We designed to NFPA and API, but I have no background on a...

    Tank truck sizes

I'm trying to locate some standardized tank truck sizes, length, width, turn radius, etc, to do a preliminary layout for a load rack. I cannot seem to find anything in particular. Is there standardized sizes, rules of thumb, any help at all?

    Wind Load on Vertical Tank

I am trying to estimate the wind load's effect on a loading of a ringwall foundation for a vertical steel tank. Tank itself is not anchored to the ringwall (yet). Height to Diameter ratio is 4/9. I've got wind speed for the area and all the tank info available.

    Replaceable Machinery Anchoring

I have an application for a large motor (4000HP) mounted to 10 ft aboveground concrete foundation and am looking for a anchor method/style which would allow for replacement of (at least) the visible portion of the anchor bolts if they are damaged (which they have been previously). The...

Thermal pressure cycling in buried pipe

Does anyone have experience with pressure dips in buried pipe - we are looking into the possibility it is based on 'cold' ground and pipe. The fluid is moved from aoveground tanks thru buried piping to remote stations, and occasionally it is held below grade (such as shutdown overnight). When...

    Quick Question on Drawoff Sumps

Does anyone know how API 650 deals with non-circular drawoff sumps? A contractor misread the drawing, and built a square sump in the center fo the tank bottom. API 650 Figure 3-15 shows all dimensions as 'diamater' and such, but also says that the sump shall be per figure/table unless...

    Genset Belly Tank installation

Client wants to install two gensets in one housing. This would mean we would have two belly (aboveground subbase) tanks side-by-side inside the housing. I cannot find any way to get around NFPA 30 requiring 3 ft separation (both tanks are greater than 660 gal and less than 3,000 gal). How can...

Calc Pressure Drop in nested pipe

I have a application where a 2" sch 80 pipe is running inside a 10" sch 40 pipeline. How can I calculate the pressure drop with this internal interference? I've used equivalent cross-sectional area, but it seems the velocity profile, amount of wetted steel, etc would have a greater effect...

    Cooling Tower estimation

I need to estimate required make-up flow to an existing and very undocumented cooling tower. I've got tonnage of heat rejection, chilled water flow, etc. Are there any rule-of-thumb estimates for drift and evaporation losses so I have some basis for starting?

    Steam Solenoid

I am trying to locate a small diameter (1/4") valve for a pilot line of a steam regulator. The possible process conditions are 320psig and 650 deg F (normally 130psig and 350deg F). I've tried all the usual suspects and I can't find any manufacturer who can supply a controlled valve. Any...

    Temperature Relief on Steam

I have what may be an easy questions... I am designing a system involving a steam-water heat exchanger. The steam header is superheated steam (250psig, 600degF), and there is a pressure reduction station (2 PRV and desuperheater) between the header and the heat exchanger passing up to 74,000...

    Desuperheater

I'm looking for standard symbology for a desuperheater on P&ID. Is there any reference available?

    Industrial Bldg Requirement

I've been trying to confirm whether or not a 400 sq ft un-manned water tank building would require fire alarm or sprinkling systems? SBCCI (georgia) does not seem to require. Its a 1 story, ground level bldg with a man door and 10ft overhead door, exhaust fan, and evaporator skid. Any ideas?
