    Expanding our firm....

Do smaller engineering firms expect the engineers to do their own drafting? I was taught to do my own design/drafting, but my partner wants to hire a CAD operator and have us funnel our drafting to them so we can focus on design. We don't use high horse-power tools like Revit, 2-D AutoCAD is...

    puddle welds on roof deck

Does anyone have a picture of what a puddle weld with weld washers 'should' look like on steel roof deck? I was recently on a site inspection and other than identifying burn through, I couldn't tell a good weld from a mediocre one. Thanks in advance.

    LH joists - end panels

Does anyone know why you would select a 5" seat (standard bearing) over a bottom bearing seat (full depth) when using these huge joists? TIA

I found out how to do CL, PL, as symbols in Autocad.... it's the tilde button... i.e. (tilde)C = CL, (tilde)P = PL.

I'm looking at drawings from 1921 and for the 2nd floor plan it says 3C 32" 67 s.f. It looks like a poured conc floor. Any ideas as to what this means? Thanks

Does Word have a symbols table to pick centerline CL, Plate PL, Angle L and other compound symbols used extensively in structural engineering?
