When ATEX first came about, I remember reading somewhere that it was ok to re-use pre-ATEX electrical equipment on new installation work (assuming the equipment is in good condition) & to re-furbish existing pre-ATEX equipment (e.g. motor overhauls). Could anybody name a standard or other...
We have some new workshop machines purchased from abroad, the wiring diagrams for the motor starters are identical to the following:-
http://www.ssusa.cc/reference/wiring_diagrams/standard_series_drawings/series_110/110_01.pdf
The are rated at 2.2KW / 1.1KW, but both overload relays are set...
For many years we have used 3- phase welding sockets incorporating Emguard earth monitoring units & 30mA RCD units.
We are thinking about ditching the Emguard units & just having sockets with built in RCD units.
Any thoughts on this, anybody else use welding sockets incorporating earth...
I'm looking for a short course to provide me with a better understanding of HV Substation design & HV distribution.
Kefax (IEE Endorsed Provider) in Mansfield do the following......Distribution System Design & Planning 5 day course.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

I’ve come across two similar 60/1A ct’s, one is marked two primary turns, the other three primary turns. Does this mean two / three primary turns respectively are required to give a 60/1 ratio in each case? To me, a 60/1A ct is 60/1 with one primary passing through???
Thanks in advance.
Alan
When terminating SWA cable glands into painted metal gland plates, traditionally we use brass earth tags with individual single core cables to an earth bar, this is not a problem in distribution panels put can quite easily over fill an earth bar in a distribution board.
What do others think...
Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction in obtaining factual cases of fires / explosions in hazardous areas caused by static electricity, non suitable electrical equipment, non compliant electrical equipment installation practice, non compliant electrical working practice or lack...
According to the GAMBICA / REMA guide on best practice for the installation of Power Drive Systems (Guide 3). http://www.gambica.org.uk/

To operate as a protective conductor, the shield conductance must be at least 50% of

I’d be interested to hear the views of others on possible electro chemical corrosion between Ex brass cable glands / copper sealing washers & Ex aluminium enclosures. Both Pirelli & Hawke recommend the use of nickel or tin plated glands, but one Ex panel manufacturer recommended using brass...

According to GAMBICA, the Trade Association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation and Laboratory Technology in the UK, close wound galvanised steel wire armour offers suitable screening for VSD motor cables.
Can XLPE/SWA/PVC cable to BS5467 be classed has having 'close wound galvanised...
I'd be interested to hear how other companies prioritise remedial work picked up during a periodic inspection of an hazardous area?
At present we use the same format as shown in BS7671 GN3:-
1...Requires urgent attention
2...Requires improvement
3...Requires further investigation
Thanks in...

I’m looking for a course, preferably in the NW of the UK on HV protection systems (nothing too intense though!!). Powersystems do a two day course which seems to fit the bill, could anyone advise on any other training courses?
Thanks,

The majority (old & new) of our production motors (pumps, agitators etc) which are on automatic instrument control will run when the stayput e-stop is released, as the instrument contact is either closed (asking to run) or open (asking to stop). Some newer systems use a pulsed start (with...
With reference to tables 54B to 54G of BS7671 it seems the final temperature of cable cpc’s are quite high & of possible concern in hazardous areas. For example, take an explosion-protected piece of equipment with T4 temperature classification (135degC) connected by XLPE SWA cable. During an...
