I want to tap an oil gallery and insert a threaded bung in it rather than a push fit bung. Just wondered what peoples opinions are, should I just tap 1/4 bsp and screw in a 1/4 bsp blanking plug until it goes tight, or should I tap 1/4 bspt and put a taper bung in..? Does it make any...

I'm teaching at a school in the UK, we have an old colchester (not sure of model but can get it if required - it doesn't have the colour coded levers for speed and is a small to medium size).
The lathe has been noisy for a while (bearing noise I think)and now it has given up...
MG Maestro 1/4 mile speed is 12.48 sec and 127 mph - I estimate the weight to be 2200lb.
Please can someone give me a hp calculation and workings out.
