First of all, not an engineer. I'm a designer.
I have a rectangular steel bar, .75" x 3" with a length of 24". The engineer tells me when in use (as a type of strap clamp) there is bending.
Question: If that rectangular bar is replaced with a similar sized bar, but with a perpendicular...
Trying to draw a line that is associative to a component so that when I move the component, the line goes along with it. I'm working in NX 2206.
Specifically, I'm trying to draw a tube 9sweep) along lines in an assembly made up of components. I draw a straight line inside and aligned with...
We want to control the angle of a hole, but position is not that critical. I realize that if we used True Position with Projection, it would accomplish what we want, but am curious if we can use just angularity and then project it. This may also apply to situations where we have a surface that...
Hello all,
I am used to modeling all parts at absolute 0, 0, 0 and then placing the components in their position in an assembly file. At my new job, they want us to model parts that are used one time in their assembly position, or what they call "rigged". If a part is used in more than one...
See attached example. This is the engineer's markup. Engineer says that the 2.000 basic dimension locates the slot (similar to positional tolerance). I say no - the 2.000 dim should be replaced with a 1.6875 dimension to the edge of the slot.
I suspect it may be the same in the vertical...
Situation: Two blocks held together with 4 screws thru clearance holes (.031 clearance on the diameter). Fixed fastener situation. In addition, there is a pin press fit into the block with the threaded holes. There is a corresponding hole for the pin in the other block that has a slip fit...
I have searched and found WCS functions (Display WCS, Orient WCS, Rotate WCS, etc.), and placed them in a Gallery on the Ribbon. I come in today, open my file, working in Modeling and all but Display WCS and save WCS are grayed out.
Why is this? I find these very useful. Is this done to move...
Hello,
Been away from NX11 for 9 months, getting back up to speed.
I have an assembly view on the drawing. I want to create a break line (the jagged/curvy kind, not straight line with "heartbeat" peaks). I expand into the view, thinking I will use Studio Spline. However, when I expand into the...
Hello. Just wanting to get some opinions on something I've run across recently.
When updating dimensions in a sketch, I change the dimension. I do this because I like a "clean" sketch. For example, if the dimension is .50 and I'm making it .25 longer, I change the dim to .75.
I recently was...
Plastic part. I have a pattern of 4 hex holes for round pins to go into. How do I locate the hex hole pattern? My first thought is to treat it kind of like a round hole pattern, but show dimension across the flat of one hole as follows:
4X .072 HEX
|LOC|DIA .005M|A|BM|
Upon doing some research...
I'm using Base View in Drafting. I've created a custom view in modeling (an exploded view). When I am in Base View, and go to Model View to Use, my custom view is not listed, only the canned views. Is this new to NX10? Seems I remember being able to do this a few months ago in NX10, but now it's...
Inside part has a diameter of 1.312 inches. We are going to press that into another part, then do a radial laser weld. The press fit only needs to establish contact between the two pieces for welding - once it's welded, the press fit will give us no mechanical advantage.
Not being well-versed...
In NX9 and previous revisions, I could put a circle in using basic curves and was able to make it a certain size, e.g. diameter .50". Now, in NX10, I cannot find a way to do this. Has that functionality been deleted, or did they just hide it and I can't find it?
Thanks
Here's what the drawing shows:
Datum is a bolt circle pattern of holes (actually called out on the bolt circle diameter dimension - not on the hole callout).
Datum is then referenced for Concentricity of an outside diameter of the same part.
I believe the intent is to establish a centerline...
I know how to create an offset datum plane. I know how to create an angled datum plane. I can even create an offset, angled datum plane. BUT... I don't know how to add that "2nd angle."
A little help here, please.
Thank you.
I will attempt to describe my situation in words:
The part is basically a tin can shape (but thicker than tin) with a flange at the top rim. I want to control the flange area with Profile of .01", but engineer wants the bottom of the flange to be held Flat within .002". For the profile, I will...
When I add a new sheet, the View Creation Wizard pops up. I don't want it to. How do I make it so that it doesn't pop up automatically like that.
Thanks
I have a segmented ring, each segment created using linked bodies and trimmed via linked datum planes. The links are broken. How do I relink everything? I've never done this before, so please don't assume any base knowledge on my part. I assume I would use the General Relinker. I've messed...
I've been using Insert Expression to create things like hole depths and counterbore diameter/depths callouts. Now I'm on a drawing that needs dual dimensions. Any way to make that happen?
Thanks
