The company I work for has design groups and manufacturing locations in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Our past practice is to use cutting plane lines per ASME standards but some of our European and Japanese design group prefer cutting plane lines per ISO.

Is anyone aware of a "pattern language" for drawings? I am trying to define the characteristics of a quality drawing. Here are some things I've come up with so far:
Drawing/Design Pattern Language:
-Clear and unambiguous
-Completely defines part/assembly
-Drawn for ease of part inspection...
When is ordinate dimensioning appropriate and when is it inappropriate?

Is there a recommended method for specifying datums on formed tubing, such as formed hydraulic tubing or formed exhaust tubing. I care about the profile along the length of the tube and I care about the location of the ends with respect to each other.
