German kW requirements differ from U.S.?

We receive electrical specifications from German machine builders that list 2 different KW requirements (German & English). Is this because of 50hz vs 60hz?

    Equipment Purchase / Run trials

We have purchased some machinery from an overseas manufacturer, and in the next few weeks they will assemble it for run trials prior to placing it into shipping containers. We will be sending an engineer and a member of QA to observe the trials. Given that we have already selected the given...

    Cost of Quality

My objective for 2005 is to define plant wide costs of quality. (appraisal, prevention, internal/external failure) I am looking for resources or company benchmarks that I can imitate to get a hold of some of these figures. As my core discipline is Mechanical Engineering, I'm venturing into...

    Accreditation-How Important is it?

How important is ABET-accreditation ? I graduated from an accredited program, and personally would not attend a University that did not have this credential. Do employers recognize the difference between accredited/non-accredited, and does it play a role in the hiring process? -Scott

    Scheduled Drawings

What is anyone's opinion on the use of scheduled drawings, and do they work well in an inventor(idw) file? We are trying to find the best way to view drawings on the shop floor, taking in all considerations (BOM, server space, ECOs) I had planned on creating iparts of all components, and...

    What's an "Engineer"?

It's more than a little irritating that the title of "engineer" is passed around so easily. After going through a rigorous ABET- accredited university to acquire the status, I have learned that just about anyone can be called an "engineer." Drafters, quality auditors, maintenance personnel...

    database schema error

My co-worker has Inventor 8, and has produced many drawing files which I am unable to open using Inventor 7. I am able to see the preview image, but when I attempt to open the idw file, I get "database schema" error. Any ideas?

I was wondering if anyone could point me to some good websites for explaining and specifying hydraulic schematics. [spin][spin2][spin] Thanks, Scott

Is the math standard necessary? Y 14.5.1

I am ordering the technical documents for ASME y 14.5 tolerancing and dimensioning, and get a 10 % discount if I order both it and the Math standard. Is the math standard essential, or even useful, to have on hand? Scott

    Air conditioning recharge

Just a quick question... do air conditioners need charged periodically to maintain proper cooling, or is charging only necessary if you have a leak?

    geometric dimensioning

I work for a cabinetry manufacturer and am looking into ways to reduce tolerance stacks. Is there a need to switch to GD& T to gain the maximum tolerance allocation, or can it all be done with general dimensioning? Switching to GD & T will require extensive training, but if it is worth it...
