I'm having a brain fart here. If I use exclude from BOM on a part in an assembly, is that control for that part all the time or just for that particular assembly?

I have a "V" shaped cover that goes around a given radius. I have modeled the cover with two bodies and am now trying to flatten them, but with no luck.
I realize that the resulting body is based on a conical surface. I'm wondering if this is where the software limitation is kicking inby not...
I have a curved sheet metal part, a simple arc, that holes on the curve. When I flatten the part, I can't add ordinate dimensions to the holes. They translate into slpines when flattened.
Any suggestions on how to add dimensions for the drawing?

Well, actually opening a can of worms.
I'm working on a fact finding mission. We are struggling with a best practice in our company as it relates to mirroring parts.
Some will mirror a body in a part and some will mirror the part in an assembly. Some say, "What does it matter?" That's well...
Maybe I am little bit thick to today or just slow. I'm not quite sure.
I go to File/Find References and get the listing of references. Is it just me or does anyone know how to find exactly what the reference is pointing to? It tells me what model, but can I find out what thing in that model...
If you review the files in the attached zip file, you will see that I am trying to construct a sheet metal part that is curved and has a hem on the curved edge.
The trouble comes when I want to flatten the part. I get two different results based on modeling techniques, neither of which creates...
Is there a parameter that has to be activated to get the ordinate dimensions in the parent to show in the detail view?

I'm struggling to find out if I can use a general table in the sheet format. I can't seem to get this to work. Works great on the sheet, but not the format.
Is it this way on purpose or is there something that I am missing. Any suggestion for a work around?

With exporting a drawing to .dwg format with Task Scheduler, is there an option to have all of the sheets of the drawing included in one file. I omnly seem to get each page exported separately.
I know when you "save as" a .dwg, it will incorporate all of the sheets into one file.

I have used the hole wizard in the model for some patterning. I have two specific instances of the same diameter hole for the two patterns that I require.
When I dimension my drawing, the hole callout annotation only counts the holes per wizard feature. Can I get it to collect all of the same...
The norm in our company is to use the file name in th BOM. When I created a part, I accidentally used lower case letters instead of upper case. Now, I am having a nightmare of a time correcting it.
I've tried renaming it in Windows Explorer, SolidWorks Explorer. I've tried save as. I've...
My brain is malfunctioning today.
I have brought 2 subassemblies together and want put an incontext relationship for some holes. The problem is that the subassemblies have their own incontext relationships for subcomponents and I can't modify them for the holes that I am trying to place in the...
I am modeling an arc coil compression spring.
The basic arc seems to be rather easy to model. I set up an arc as a path and sweep a circle along the path using the twist option in the sweep feature setup.
Easy enough, or so I thought. Then the method of manufacturing comes into play. This...
I'm trying to scale a revolved model that will represent MMC and LMC conditions. Imagine a piece of tubing. I have a scale factor, but when applied, it scales everything upward or downward. I'm looking for bi-directional. For MMC conditon, inside diameters should be smaller and the od should...
Can the upper limit of one matrix be subtracted from the lower limit of another martix.
EX.
Matrix1--- a max
a nominal
a min
Matrix2--- b max
b nominal
b min
I would like to get the result of b max - a min
Is this possible?
Right now the result...
I was poking around the SolidWorks installation folders and came across the databases for moldbase components. I also noticed that in the Edit Data Standards it lists some of the commom moldbase suppliers.
How simple is it to connect the old Moldbase files to these databases that are listed?
I was wondering what the thoughts were on the 2 approaches.
I have tried both in my spare time, but haven't put either into application.
With weldment functionality, it does seem easy to create the skeleton of a structure with sketches and then assign the profiles for the extrusions. The...
Thinking back to SW2005, does anyone know of a method that will display a section of a rib in old school drafting methods where the rib is sectioned and the surrounding material isn't or vice-versa?
Unfortunately, answers pertaining to newer versions will not be of assistance.
Thanks in...
I'm trying to add a length for a bolt into the data standards for Toolbox.
I can disable existing lengths, but I can't seem to find a way to add a new one in.
This is where I am looking:
