    Alternative license server(s)

We have 3 floating ADVES licenses and 2 node-locked ADV MACH's which have local license servers. The ADV MACH's have the license borrowing option. My question: If I'm on a machine that normaly takes an ADVES license from the server (floating) and there's non available, is there a way to see the...

To Teamcenter or not to Teamcenter that's teh question

Hi all, We've been using UG for about 10 years. Currently we have 3 CAD seats and 1 CAM seat. Everyone is working on his own parts/assembly's, there's no collaborate design and we don't use BOM's. Assembly versioning is somethimes messy, but seldom problematic (it's more in the sence that you...

    Problem with expression units

We recently upgraded from NX3 to NX6. Eversince we run into one problem after the other and all these problems are related to expression units. Expression units were introduced in NX3 and in all pre-NX3 files used in the newer versions the units were left blank. NX3 ignored this, but now in NX6...

    side by side video animation

I would like to compare 2 video files with calculation results side by side. Does anyone know of a software (as always preferably free) that can do this? Thanks for any help,

    problem identifying thread

I have an impeller with an internal thread. A thread pitch gauge for Whitworth 55° 11G-5/8 fits fine. The inner diameter is 123.8 mm or 4.874" (4 8/7?). I searched the internet for Whitworth thread tables but they all stop at smaller diameters. Can anyone give a hint? Thanks in advance,

    Nitrogen in CA6NM

What is the maximum amount of N that can be tolerated in CA6NM? Apart from possible porosity problems due to the solubility, N is an austenite stabilisor. I expect the more nitrogen, the more retained austenite. From what percentage is this becoming a problem? A close match to CA6NM: DIN/SEW...

    Induction vs EAF

First my apologies for posting a question that has extensively been dealt with in 2007 and 2004 URL:http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=202861 URL:http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=101946 but I think a lot of variables have dramaticaly changed over the last year: Suppose you...

Properties of exothermic sleeves for risers

Hi all, For some time I've been looking for the properties of EXO/ISO sleeves to use in casting simulation. I'm looking for curves of generated power per volume or mass versus time. I've done extensive searches on the internet and the only thing I could find was "Problems of Heat Source...

    UGS Licensing policy

I'm sure the upcoming new license policy has been adressed in this forum, but the search option still doesn't seem to work. Anyway, my sales rep is only interested in selling things and has not the slightest clue what is going on, therefore my question to you all: What is all this CID stuff...

    RPN scientific calculator

Sorry for this totaly off-topic question, but I found no other forum and I hope someone can help me. I'm looking for a RPN (Reverse Polish Notation or Postfix notation) calculator that is not to expensive and can do trigoniometric (sin, cos, tan and their hyps). HP seems to leeve the RPN path...

    sharing licenses

Has anyone ever tried to setup an agreement with a company in another part of the world to use each others licenses overnight? Is it legal? P.S. were situated in Western Europe.

    fluid mechanics in steel casting

I’m methods engineer in a steel foundry. We make castings up to 25 tons casted weight. The metal has to be poured fast to avoid preliminar solidification and break down of the sand mould. To give you an idea, a 25 ton casting will typically be poured in 2 to 3 minutes. The metal is poured out...

    strengthening austenitic stainless steel

We have made some castings in CF-8A. The tensile tests failed. Instead of a Rm of min. 530MPa we have typically 470MPa. Yield strength is typically 225MPa for 240MPA required. Elongation is 50% for 35% required. Typical analysis: C=0.026%, Mn=1.23%, Si=0.74%, P=0.02%, S=0.005%, Cr=18.4%...

    Fe + 3%Si

Does anyone have any experience with casting of steel with 3% Si (C<0.04%)? I'm interested in feeding behaviour, can it be flame cut, what thermal treatment is normaly required? Thanks for helping me out, Mik

partial revolved section cut in NX3

I want to make a revolved section cut at a given angle, but only one branche. In NX1 this was fairly easy: pick a rotation point in the parent view (e.g. centerpoint of a cilindrical shape) and then define a cut position. You then could leave the menu and place the view without having to...

    IGES translation

We do more and more translations from Catia to UG NX3. The problem is that the quality of the IGES file is dependent on the quality of the model in Catia and the translation tolerances. We are looking for information/settings to instruct our customers how to export IGES. I suppose we're not the...

    Neoprene MIL-R-6855C, class 2, grade 80

Abrassion response test ASTM G75 specifies above material as lap material. Can anyone indicate what properties the neopren must have to qualify for this standard? An internet search didn't come up with anything and our local suppliers are not familiar with the standard. Thanks in advance,

    Mn-alloyed steel

Does anyone know of a steel containing 6% Mn with a low carbon (0.12%) and small additions of Mo and V, without Cr or Ni? I'm told it has superior fatigue resistance.
