    MTR Certification Requirements

I have recieved some suspect 304H pipe from an Asian mill. The MTR's are not signed or stamped. Is this a requirement? I don't recall ever seeing MTR's without a signature.

Furnace Convection Section Remaining life analysis

I have been tasked with estimating remaining life of some furnace convection sections. I am hoping some of you folks may have done similar and can offer some ideas. things that come to mind initially are; • What types of inspection data we need • Historical failures • Damage mechanisms •...

    Purge Gas GTAW penetration question

We had a lot of difficulty with our final tie-in welds with concave root and some cracking with Inco 117 filler on 304H and a needle purge on a project. We are attempting to weld up some test pieces of 800H with 117 (Needle purge) in our shop and discovered that this too resulted in significant...

PWHT Stainless Steel - Essential Varialble?

I am looking at doing PWHT (solution annealing) on 304H material to reverse the sensitized HAZ. Looking at QW-407 of AMSE Sec. IX I am interpreting that PWHT is not an essential variable for weld procedure and that an additional PQR is not required. Is this interpretation correct?

    Chrome Depletion 304H welds

Hello all, I have evidence of chromium depletion in 304H butt welds from metallurgical analysis. The depletion appears to be the result of high heat input / slow cooling. I want to develop a presentation for our trades people and wondering if there are any "canned" materials out there similar...

    Heat Treatment A335 P91 Assistance

I have some in service steam piping, 9Cr 1Mo V Grade P91 with soft spots. Hardness values ~160 BHN. I am wondering if re Normalizing and Tempering will restore the strength of this material with any success. (Awaiting field insitu replicas as well). If this is an option, does anyone have ideas...

Piping design - rule of thumb

I am looking for a "rule of thumb" idea or even documentation related to maximum flow velocities for process piping. I recall from the past hearing 50ft/s generically but not sure if it was for process piping, pipelines, or both. My specific need is for a gas phase but a generic table would be...

    Sulfreen Condenser Problems

Hi all, I have a Sulfreen Condenser that has failed after 10 months service. Failures are in the seal welds of the inlet tube to tube sheet welds. 660 psig BFW shell side, tail gas tube side with very little evidence of corrosion. The gas side sees temperature cycles of 300of to 600of every 15...

    316L Reboiler Tube Temperature Discoloration

Hello all, I have some 316L reboiler tubes suffering preferential attack at the baffle locations in an MEA solution. There is also a distinct dis-coloration that appears to be a temperature gradiant in these locations (blue - grey0. Does anyone have an idea of what temperature range this may...
