    Set pressure of safety valve

On a non-fired boiler steam line... has anyone ever seen the design pressure of B31.1 piping being LOWER than its relief valve setting? There are multiple relief valves in the line, each at an incremental pressure than the previous. The first valve will lift at the design pressure of the pipe...

    Generator Ventilation Test

We are purchasing a hydrogen cooled generator. Is there a standard test (IEEE?) for shop testing the gas flow through the generator? I have heard of a ventilation test or blower surge test mentioned before. Thanks!

Completion of ASME VIII Div 1 Vessel in the Field

Our transportation dept has informed me a Section VIII vessel we have on order might be too large to ship in one piece. The final weld (for pressure boundary) would have to be completed in the field. The weld exam, hydro, and application of the U stamp would have to be done in the field as well...

    BFU Heat Exchanger Thermal Leakage

Is thermal leakage (short circuiting) across the longitudinal baffle seal a big concern in TEMA BFU exchangers? What about restoring the seal after the shell is pulled? I cannot change to a different HX type - the design is fixed. Thanks.

Diaphragm Pump & Centrifugal Pump in Series

We are designing a system that uses an air operated double diaphragm pump for pumping wastewater through some filters and a demineralizer. The problem is the diaphragm pump does not have enough output pressure to pump all the way through the demineralizer at the required flow. (The plant air...

PRV For Shell & Tube HX

I have an application for an ASME Section VIII shell and tube heat exchanger. Unfortunately I do not have the ASME Section VIII Code in my hands yet to review UG-125 etc. I’m working on getting it. To me, it is a clear cut answer that we need a pressure relief valve to protect the shell. But I...

    ASME Code Reconiliation

What process do you have to go through to do a Code reconciliation? We will have to do one in the future for equipment purchesed against a later edition than what the plant (nuclear) was certified and built to. Is it a formalized procedure? What tools are available to do this? Regards
