In our legacy ACAD data we used the parts library for fasteners and the balloon command in a manual mode. We did not use the automated BOM in ACAD. The problem is the inserted fasteners and the balloons created reference points and that creates a database within the drawing. When one assigns an...
I am looking for a batch utility that will read the information contained within a block's attributes. Then write that information along with the tag name into the file properties of dwg file. Does anyone know if such a utility exists?
I am currently writing my company's standards. I just finishing the section on part and assembly naming convention (title/description creation) which I based off of ASME Y14.100 and the DRM 10th edition section eight. What I would like to do next is develop a set of acceptable terms to help...
I got limited response from the Inventor Forum so I'll try this here? Can anyone offer any input? Thanks

My company is in currently examining our current engineering practices and looking for ways to improve upon them. Currently, our methods are very poor, we are lacking clearly defined SOP's and not really practicing the ones we do have. One of the ways we hope to improve upon this is to...
We reccently installed and are using Inventor R10 and started noticing some performance issues with Inventor and our Network.
The network in general seems to hit a bottleneck evary so often and slows everything down (email, Inventor, etc...)
Inventor for lack of a better explaination forgets...
One of my co-workers came across this problem, when attempting to make changes to a project file he created Inventor R10 would not allow him to save. We attempted to create a new project file the same thing happened. Has anyone come across this sitiuation? What was the fix?
Thanks
Has anyone else come accross this problem while working on an assembly? One places a component in an assembly, it could be a part or a sub-assembly, and then attempts to use the free drag to move the newly placed component. It has not been constrained or grounded, Inventor seems to freeze not...
I was using Inventor R10 the other day working on an assembly inserting fasteners. I added couple of them to the, "Favorites," list so I could find the ones we use more often alot faster than having to hunt through the whole list. Then I whiched projects and started a new assembly. I wanted...
Has anyone eles had this issue? Recently a couple of our designers have made some changes to some ACAD files, saved them and then re-opened them later the same day or several days later only to find that the changes they made didn't save. It almost seems like Autocad is re-opening the bak file...
What is the best go between file format for going from Microstation to Solidworks, step, iges etc...?
Thanks
Tom
PS We have been trying step files with rather limited or no success.
My company places the mass of the part or assembly in the Title blocks of our drawings. Currently Inventor doesn't give an option in the Title Block creator to add this field from the Iproperties (desrciption, title, material etc...). The work around is add a prompted field to do this, but...
we typically start our designs with generic part and sub assembly names, ie plate 1, sub assembly 3, etc... as the design progresses we eventually replace the generic names with the actual part numbers. the only way to do this thus far is to open each part do a "save copy as" and perform a...
I just started using table driven parts for similar parts (ie same part different lenghts, different features threaded or non threaded end etc...) for parts instead of creating one part and doing a "save as". When I insert these parts into an assembly Inventor creates a sub directory...
My company only moved half of our department to Inventor and the other half is still using AutoCAD 2000i (soon to be 2004 mechanical). I tired saving some things from Inventor to AutoCAD (both 2000i & 2004 mech) and some thing get lost in the translation ie hatch patterns, dimensions, section...
Is there anyway to get work axes or work point defined in an assembly to show up in a drawing? If so is there a way to apply sketch constraits to them?
How can you re-size a work plane created in an asssembly? In a part one can grab the corners and drag them to the size desired. Why can't one do the same thing in an assembly.
