    2711K5A1 Firmware Upgrade

    Heat Tracing in Classified Area

How would this be handled: A weld shop is in an unclassified area and contains a small compressor. The discharge of the compressor has copper tubing that runs through the outside wall, goes underground and exits the ground in a classified area (Class I, DIV II). The tubing is not buried deep...

Single Phase Breakers, Three Phase Panel

Our company sometimes builds trailers with some of the equipment being three-phase and single phase motors. We'll take the trailers to a site and have the utility company build us a bank of transformer(s) for power. The power is normally 120/240 3-phase 200A 4-wire delta. My question is this...

Sealing Conduit Between Unclassified and Classified

We have a trailer that contains pumping equipment. Outside the trailer in the unclassified area is a control panel and breaker panel. From these boxes, there are several 1" EMT conduits that are piped to a trough under the trailer. There are no seals between the the boxes and the trough...

    3-Phase Wye to 3-Phase Delta

I have a 400A, 120/208 Wye 3-Phase bank of transformers mounted on a utility pole at a site we will be working at. Our equipment requires 200A, 120/240 VAC which would be an open delta, I believe. Can we use a transformer to accomplish this? The problem is the power company wants 10K to build...

    Single Phase From Three Phase

I have 240/120 Y 3PH power to a breaker panel. I would like to run a 240 VAC single phase 7-1/2 HP compressor from this panel. Is it correct to say I should be able to draw the power from the 'A' and the 'C' phase to make 240 VAC 1 PH. or will that not work? thanks, al

    230 VAC Breaker Sizing

This is really basic, but I have to ask: When sizing a multi-pole load, do you add the breaker ratings? Example: A 230 VAC motor pulls 18 amps. Do I use 2-15 amp breakers tied together or do I use 2-30 amp breakers? The load center is a 240/120 3 phase panel thanks, striped.bass@erols.com

    480 VAC Transformer Question

I'm installing controls for a treatment facility. The power company has a bank of transformers that they said they are going to connect in a 480 VAC 3-wire delta to me. I have a 45KVA 480 by 120/208Y transformer that I wish to connect to their supply. How would I create the neutral if the power...

220 VAC motor-Only One Lead Direct To Motor

This is a two-partr': 1-We have several well pumps that are 220 VAC, single phase. The person who wired them (several years ago) ran one lead from the breaker direct to the motor. The other lead is interrupted by the starter contactor. Isn't this dangerous? I installed new contactors and broke...

    Proper Building Service Grounding

I wish to install 300 Amp service to a building. I am installing 3-10 ft ground rods vertically in a triangle pattern 10 ft apart. I will be bonding the rods with 1/0 copper conductor. I then will be routing the copper conductor back to the service fused disconnect. My question is: How do I...

    Amps Interrupt Capacity

I'm running a 300 amp service into a building. No one I talked to can tell me what the branch AIC breaker rating should be. Is there a rule of thumb to use or should I specify 100K to be safe. Right now, I have specified 65K. Thanks, striped.bass@erols.com

    Motors Running FLA's

I have 2 motors at 2 different job sites running Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps from the same company. One motor is 10 HP and the other is 25 HP. Both motors are single voltage 3 ph. 208 VAC although both have been rewound because the orginal ones roasted. Both motors are running at their max FLA. The...
