What determines the set point of a PSV

Can anybody tell me if there are certain rules of thumb used when determining the set point of a PSV. The reason i ask this is because i have recently come across the following situation. A heating medium system has a expansion drum operating pressure of 2.4 Bar. Yet the Psv are set at 8 Bar...

How much end float should i see

During a factory test of a generator it was noticed a considerable amount of end float on the generator shaft (drive end). This was probably due to the fact that the generator was being diven as a motor (uncoupled) for test purpose and it was finding its Magnetic Center. Eventually a spacer...

    Reynolds Number

In any engineering text, it states that a flow with a reynolds number of less than 2000 is of the Laminer flow and anything over 4000 is Turbulent flow. These figures are used for calcultion reasons. What i do not understand is when making calculations, figures of 40000, 60000 and 100000 and...

    CV

If a control valve has a CV of say 300, with the valve fully open the flow is 800m3/hr. Does this mean that if the valve was only open 50%, the CV would be 150 and the flow would be 400m3/hr. At 25 % would the cv be 75 and the flow 200m3/hr and so on. Thankyou.
