I am trying to understand the difference between storm sewer pipe that is designed by Mannings equation vs culvert design. Why can't we size a culvert using Mannings equation, considering that it is conveying flow from one end to other?
Can someone explain?
I am evaluating an existing roadside ditch capacity for approx.2,100 ft length. The drainage area contributing to the ditch is a narrow section of roadside ditch area, and half of the pavement, so there is not much flow added. With the rational method, as the Time of Concentration increases, the...
When you specify a TDH for Vertical Turbine Pump (or provide TDH info to manufacturer), should it include the column and pump discharge head headlosses too OR the TDH should be at the discharge head connection and the manufacturer will add the losses from discharge head to pump bowl as pump...
Is tank mixing eductor (TME)good for mixing wastewater eq tank. There is a screen upstream of the EQ basin but you never know what size solids pass through the system. Any potential clogging issues with the eductors in WW application? Feedback from design and/or experience would be appreciated...

With reference to processing of solids fruits wasate (apple, peach, cherry etc. with pits) can someone provide input on equipment that can grind/pulverize the referenced fruits into particles less than 3 mm?
llamallama can you provide some input?
Need a system with a grinder for grinding/pulverizing fruits waste (apple, cherry, peach etc with pits). The particle size off the grinder shall be less than 3 mm. Is there any equipment out there that can guarantee the particle size of less than 3mm? Any input/suggestions/reference?
The plant is having issue with foam building up in a vertical pipe that carries filtrate from the belt filter press. The filtrate is collected in an above the ground tank. The vertical pipe is partially filled with water all the time since it is discharging the filtrate to the aboveground tank...
Variable water level in a tank over the time. Need to get a constant Discharge Q by use of a submersible pump (150 gpm). The flow discharge to atmosphere pressure. What flow/pressure control valve should I use? Any suggestions on piping configuration?
I am trying to understand the calculations of air requirement for Post Aeration Tank based on Fick's Law that I found. Can someone decodify how the followings were calculated based on the data provided?

Folks,
Any suggestion on cleaning method of silt deposition in a raw water pump station. The intake has a 1 mm screen. The pump station wet well invert is 60 ft deep. Will a VAC truck able to pull the deposition out of the wet well?
Install a mud pump?? The silt cannot be send back to the river...
Wastewater Effluent Application- Small flow (200 gpm), pipe size 3inch, single speed pump. The pump runs at approx 360 gpm at 68 ft TDH. I want to reuse the pump by moving the system curve creating more head loss (add more pressure) so that the pump will deliver 200 gpm at 92 ft. What type of...
What type of pipe material is in common practice to convey industrial process wastewater (acidic = pH 4)? It appears, in spite of being susceptible to the corrosion, carbon steel pipe is still used widely in the industrial wastewater with allowance for scraficing thickness for corrosion (i.e...
We are reusing a existing carbon steel tank to hold industrial wastewater of acidic nature ( lower value upto pH 4) for temporaily storage when the treatment system is in upset condition. What are the items to be considered for this conversion. What would be the minimum D.O. to be maintained...
I am looking for assistance in finding a formula to find Aerobic Digester VSS Destruction % formula based on SRT, VSS, and nbVSS, Kd. I came across a formula containing above parameters, but I couldn't find the same formula containing nbVSS in any of the reference such as Metcalf Eddy, or WEF...
May be a very dumb question, but just thought there is nothing wrong to ask- When a centrifugal pump is started against a closed check valve, will the pump operation move from left to right or right to left on the pump curve? (Start with zero head or start with zero flow?)
This question is pertaining to water works.
I am seeing two terms or two equipment - back pressure valve and back pressure regulating valve.
Wondering what is the difeerence between these two (in terms of inlet and outlet pressure)
What is the significance of Pump Shut of Head in terms of pump operation and mainteance, piping system, valves design, and other pump station design parameters?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Hi all,
I am working on writing a spec. for a fairly large Vertical Turbine Pump . During the pump selection procedure from various manufacturers, we had more manufacturers that they could meet the design conditions at lower speed of 900 rpm and one manufacturer being at 1200 rpm. My question is...
