I have qualified a welder on a 2.5" pipe XXH strong in 6 G position. Per Sec IX if the deposited weld thk is more than 3 passes the welder is qualified for maximum thk. However my question what will be the minimum thk the welder is qualified to . Will it be 1/16 to unlimited.
We are in the process of fabricating heat exchanger where the shell side is to be tested at 770PSIG. The tube sheet has 2 grooves and the tubes will be welded with 2 passes.
My question is as follows.
1) should expansion be performed before or after welding
2) Is Hydraulic expansion a better...
i am planning to appear for API 570 exams and would like to know if anyone can provide me with the material. I have already bought the codes as required by API, but looking for some more material,
I have to Qualify a mock up procedure of Tube to tube sheet weld as per QW 193.
Material is as follows.

Tubes -SA 334 Gr 3.
Can someone provide me with information regarding the filler wire to be used for welding
What should be the material used for Baffle plates and tie rods if the MDMT od the Tube side and shell side is -26°F. Should regular material suitable for -20°F can be used for this ??.
I plan to run welding procedure with SB163 N04400 to Sa 516 Gr 70 , and I need some advise . This procedure will be used for welding tube to tube sheet joint.
I have to run a welding procedure as per Sec IX. MAterial is SS 304 with Solution annealing.Thickness of the coupon will be 1/2" plate. Can someone recommend the solution annealing time and temperature cycle.

Can anyone please explain the difference between seal welding and strength welding of heat excahnger tube to tube sheet joints.
As far as i understand Strength weldg is determined by performing a mock up of the joint followed by push out test.
I have to qualify a welding procedure for Duplex material (UNS 32205). Which welding wire should I use for welding, and what precautions are to be taken during welding

The extreme fiber elongation as per the formula given in UCS 79D.
what should be the value of t ( minimum or nominal)
what should be computed for Rf (mean kunckle radius)
During insertion of a U tube bundle, it was observed that because of the ovality in the shell it was difficult to push the bundle inside. In this case what is the best solution.
a) to grind the baffles ( which i think is not the best thing to do) or
b) grind the areas in the shell

we have hydrotested a Heat Exchanger( 20" Dia) later on we welded a pad( fillet weld) on the shell to support a pipe.
Do I have to test the Exchanger again because of the fillet weld. Or if we do an NDT like PT ot MT will that suffice

I have qualified a welding procedure on a 4" Sch 40 SA 333 Gr 6 pipe with impact testing at -50°F. Welding was done in Flat position.
My client is telling me that I can use the procedure only in 1G and 2G position. As far I know i can use this procedure for all positions if I have a welder...
We are planning to perform Pull out test on Tube to tube sheet mock up.

We are workig on a Low Temp job where in the customer has refused to accept typical certs for the GTAW wire ( ER 80 S Ni2). They want the actual values per heat #( i.e Chemical, Tensile and X-Ray as per ASME Sec II PArt C).
Can anyone tell me who can supply the wire with actual certification in...
We ae fabricating a vessel where in the shell and the head material is to be SA 516 Gr 70 N 1/2" thk. The heads are to be hot formed . The head manufacturer does not have SA 516 Gr 70 plate in Normalized condition. What he proposes is thta if the heads are hot formed in the normalizing range...
