Hi,
In the USA defense industry it is quite common to have multiple "dash" numbers of an assembly. These represent different arrangements or configurations that are similar to one another.
At my company we would balloon these out on a single drawing in whatever way quickly shows the...
This has been brought up previously, however it was many years ago and I'm hoping this has since been resolved.
IN NX8.5 or NX 10 - how can we access the quantity of a part ($~Q) in an annotation?
I can insert a parts list, and then use split balloons when using the Auto Balloon function, but...
Hello,
Is there a way in NX 8.5 or NX 10 to generate "smarter" PDFs? I imagine a drawing where I can CTRL+F for a find number. A PDF that a user could click an item on a PL and have it go straight to the Balloon.
Thanks!
Frank
Hello,
This is an issue that would ONLY ever come up when there is a drafters union involved.
Drafters are the only ones that are allowed to edit and produce the official drawings for our parts and assemblies. There are three main workflows for how engineering and drafting can complete...
Hello everyone! Been MIA from this forum for the last 3.5 years. Feels like I never left.
We have a special font for silkscreening that is available when I insert a PMI note to a model. This font is not available in the Insert-Curve-Text command. Any ideas how to import it into that list...
My supervisor is completely and utterly incompetent. Literally, he is not capable of managing the engineering department (about ~10 people under him). He is not organized, not in touch with any of the projects going on, and screws up nearly everything he does touch. Finally, he is not capable...
I need to add some extra length to my routing cable to allow for maintenance of an assembly. It would be nice to show this extra cable length in my assembly drawing - which means modeling a helical-like service loop within electrical routing.
I found a post on google in which a guy managed...
We all have to deal with stupidity.
Stupid people.
Stupid specifications.
Stupid bosses, managers, co-workers.
Stupid company policies.
How do you stay sane at work? How do you deal with all of the above?
When a co-workers requests a moronic change to one of your drawings, how do you...
Hi everyone. I admit, i'm partially here just to vent.
I'm a mechanical engineer with 5 years experience and am 21/30 toward my M.S. We used SolidWorks for mechanical designs and drawings.
My company recently hired a new employee who is making method sheets/assembly instructions for the...
Hello everyone,
I have a 21.56" x 23.50" x .75" plate with a bolt pattern in it to be mounted to a vibration table for some mil-std-810 testing. I am welding to this plate, the mounting structure for my equipment (a ruggedized display). I may want to put a flatness call out on the bottom...
Hopefully this subject caught your attention. Yes it is a loaded topic.
I'm a mechanical engineer doing mechanical design of electronics equipment. Mostly fitting PC boards into machined aluminum enclosures. I started working in 2008 for a different company and have been with this one for a...
I currently work for a small company. We have a new product that needs to pass mil-std-810 shock/vibration. I have designed a 6061-T6 aluminum welded test fixture for this project.
Past engineers working for this company have not actually put actual AWS welding symbols on their drawings -...
Hello everyone.
I'm working on a project to develop a new curriculum for freshmen level Mechanical Engineering students. The focus of the introductory (design?) course is to teach students skills that are required in the "real world". Personally, I have come up with pages of things that I...
Does anyone have a really good Solidworks model part/library for D SUB miniature connectors?
Does the M24308 series drive anyone else crazy or just me?
Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new mechanical engineer (graduated college in 2008). I used to work for one of the largest DoD contractors in the USA, but last February switched to a new, small company.
This new company does things very unprofessionally compared to what I'm used to. My first...
Hi all,
I have an assembly (69645-1) that is saved in the workgroup PDM (Vault).
When I RMB on this assembly and pick <Document Information>-> <Refernces Tab> it contains references to various parts. One of these parts is a Bearing stored in the "Bearings" folder of the workgroup PDM. for...
Hey all.
Just changed jobs and went from NX6.0/NX7.5 to SolidWorks 2011. My new coworker has mostly got me set up, but even he doesn't know why the following is happening... My goal is to pack all of the instances of the same component to get a nicer looking tree. I was told that folders are...
