what could happen with a P91 pipe and welds on service without PWHT

Dear guys. I know it is a crazy question, but what could happens with a P91 pipe and welds on steam service what is working under pressure and without PWHT? Even if it is a temporal pipe (and probably it can be used for a couple of weeks on use) are there any "method" to follow to assure that...

    Modified tensile strenght test

Hey guys I hope everybody are fine during COVID storm. Does anybody knows if there are any way to check the next matter?... My friend and I decided to perform a kind of "modified tensile strenght test" over two fittings as it shows the picture below. We did not find any way to perform the...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

and do you know if there are any book, recommended literature or any other that can gives typical photos of inclusions on malleable cast iron?

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Hey guys.. Following the issue comment several months ago, I got some pics from fracture zone of Tee fitting. In this section clearly appears a "White" zone and a "black" one. I guess these could be some inclussions.. what do you think about that?

    welding SS347H (heat treatment required)?

Ups.. I was checking and I am going to Weld 55 mm. thickness plates.. so any recommendations? in this case, as metengr said, an intermediate stress relief could be done while welding.. any suggestion of this process?

    welding SS347H (heat treatment required)?

Thanks guys. Ok I give more details. This SS 347H Will be used for tank fabrication (bottom, Shells, top). Also for piping. Material to be transported (molten salts).. temperature around 550 °C.

    welding SS347H (heat treatment required)?

Hey guys, I am going to weld SS 347H. As far as I know, this kind of alloy is prone to be a problem during service (probably SCC problem). Actually I have selected an electrode free of rutile (it was an advice I read on many papers) and I perform some tests (according to ASME IX - tensile...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Hey guys.. well I wanna tell you that I made some tests over these two samples and I am going to summary the results: - Hardness test in both samples: (average value is 75 HRB.. 133 HB.. estimated tensile strenght 45.6 Kgs/mm2) - Metalography: Pictures shown in 200x microscopy.

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

To answer MintJulep questions. It is not possible to have large fittings so I can not get this specimen. I wasthinking to do hardness test and microscopy to check microstructure. The fittings were purchased by the company I was worked for. These came from China. I wanna thank to all you guys...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Yes.. I supouse the same.. over torque but the client is concerned due to material. So now I need to do some tests on the material and to check if these meet the ASME B16.3 specs. It is kind of difficult because according to ASTM A197, the tensile strenght is the only mechanical property...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Thanks guys.. I did not know that I can insert images over my notes. Just to clarify a little more about the issue. Diameter of elbow is 1/2". I just got this elbow and one T too (both failed during pneumatic test). Around 500 fittings among 90° elbows and Ts have been already installed in lines...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Yes I found tape in both threads. However the point is that my client does not believe that the contractor could have the fault. That is why i am here asking for some advice, so I can test failed material. Oh I forgot to mention that we had problem with a T, too. Maybe it is the reason why my...

cracks in malleable iron threaded 90° elbow

Hey guys. In a construction project we were facing some problems with some malleable iron threaded 90° elbows. During some pneumatic tests two elbows failed (I attach some picturees). We think that the problem is bad practise during construction by the contractor (due to excessive wrenchs...
