    Viscosity Breakdown?

The mineral/synthetic blends are not something new, I used to use syn blend some years back. Here ya go. http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/motor-oil/durablend-synthetic-blend-motor-oil So out of all these words and numbers I see here in this post there is no mention of what viscosity the...

Are they going to regulate chlorina

Are they going to regulate chlorinated paraffin's out of existence? And if so what does the industry have for replacements?

Polymers in multi viscosity motor oils.

Thanks, so it is essentially rubber.

Polymers in multi viscosity motor oils.

They are used in a base oil weight to increase viscosity as the temperature warms up. So what exactly is this polymer, is it a plastic or ? And does it have any lubricating properties, in stand alone conditions?

That hard gray paste in older cars' oil pans, heads, etc.

So are you talking about combustion deposits or gasket sealer?

Changing of process. Adhesive curing stage

I would make a guess that if a car body is heated too much more that a dark colored car sitting in the sun in the middle of summer time, to cure any chemical would cause warpage / distortion of sheet metal that has be cold formed. The process of heating causes stress relief, so what do you...

    "Pinched" edges on surfaces

The mold or stamping die was likely machined for all those parts. There are many CNC Cad programs that can do that sort of thing. Catia is probably the best for it. You need to ask someone that uses these types of software.

    European Auto Engineering Theme

Agree with the old cars. But just go back to the 90's there are ECU's and plenty of electronics, and you don't need to have to swap out all the ecu's when you just have to change one of them. I understand there are some Mercedes that once the module is linked if it craps out, you have to go get...

    European Auto Engineering Theme

Things that are not fun to deal with is modules that when replaced for some reason, they need some sort of special tool to be programmed to communicate with the other modules. That is where old school electronics shines easy plug and play. The bad thing about letting electronics take over...

    6000 mile oil damage

Synthetic oil was originally designed for jet engines if I remember correctly, and those temps far exceed anything a piston engine will see unless its a full adiabatic with no cooling system. The problem is the ridiculous low viscosity spec'd, at temperature SAE 40 pours like water. And your...

    Automotive cooling system

Fan will be approx. 2 feet diameter. What rpm does it run?

    Automotive cooling system

Give us some data. What kind of cooling system does the engine use? Air cooled or liquid cooled??? What is the displacement? What fuel and what ignition system? ------> Compression ignition or spark? What HP is it? What application? Racing, normal driving, large truck, off road etc.

Car structure weaking rate over time/mileage

I was not talking destructive testing. That is a different test format than a durability test. Now if those wings had parts falling off while doing stalls and high G maneuvers the test is a fail.

Car structure weaking rate over time/mileage

Just like if aircraft are popping rivets during testing, its not going to be FAA rated till the problem is fixed. Or the same with cylinders falling off engines. So then auto manufacture is not into correct design of their products? If there is a problem fix it, before it becomes the big...

Car structure weaking rate over time/mileage

If spot welds are breaking during testing then are those areas being reinforced better? If spot welds are being stressed to breaking points during normal and adverse driving conditions then the structure is not designed correctly. Breaking in crash tests is another subject. If the body...

    Question about jack points

Yes it is meant to lift the knife edge of the pinch weld. Yes a rid is beam like but still a nonsense deal. On quality stuff do quality things. A pinch weld can be spread and bent over as you can't always chose where you need to change a tire. Mercedes seems to get it right. Oh the Lexus jack...

    Question about jack points

Not on an LS400 you don't. A careful study of the factory scissor jack pad tells the story as well. Any place off the pinch weld is asking for bent metal.

    Question about jack points

I guess its the little things that get to me at times. Spent sometime searching the net about jack points. I just find it funny, sad or ? That so many cars have rocker panel pinch welds as designated jack points, that is an engineering fumble that is just asking for trouble IMO. Since the...

    Air bags SRS

I would like to know if cars from the early 90's have ones that could have the same problems that are now so prevalent in the news? If the deploy devices are so dangerous why weren't they encased in something like Kevlar? After doing an internet study airbags seem more dangerous than I would...

    Automotive paint question

So what is your thoughts on waxing the paint? What does it change? Will a car cover remove the wax from motion of wind and rain? And I agree but what a way to determine that a part has been repainted, and with sub standard paint. A factory paint job is probably the best there is, well on some...
