    Boatlift motor won't startup

    Thanks for responding so quickly. I opened up the motor to clean it out, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Is the start capacitor something that I can replace or test? Where is it located? Also, where is the centrifical switch located?

    Boatlift motor won't startup

    I have a small electric motor that drives a boat lift. The motor worked fine until recently. Now, when I switch the motor on, it just hums. If I give the pulley a turn, it starts and it works fine...until I stop it, then the same thing happens when I try to restart it. Also, when it hums...
