Does anyone have any resources on construction in water. (lake or pond.) I am working on a project that the Civil wants to use auger cast piles. I've always used driven timber piles. This part of the project is a fishing pier in a state park.
Any suggestions on construction material...
Does anyone have any ball-park figures for the cost savings for changing wood studs from Southern Yellow Pine Grade #1 to Spruce Pine Fir #2 ? cost per unit? for a small one story job abt. 50'x100' with L.B. stud walls and press plated trusses. thanks in advance.
Does anyone have any direction or resources that would help me in a project I'm involved where nets are spanning between built up columns 100' tall spaced at 50'.
A mesh will span the sides as a wall to prevent golf balls but will take wind pressure.
Another line of columns/wall occurs 200'...
Does anyone know of any IBC code limitations regarding Battering of piles in Seismic Site class or Design Category "D." A pile Contractor told me that IBC prohibits the bettering of piles in certain seismic site classes or categaories.
Is this True? If yes, How would one resist lateral shear...
Local code official is asking me to submit any research showing the ability of T&G heavy timber decking to act as a roof diphragm.
SBC 2000 says not to use interlocking pieces as diaphragm. However, we are spiking each piece together. We have always used it in the past.
Has anyone ever used...
2004 Means Building Construction Data shows the tube being 80% the cost of the comparable W section bare costs.
TS to W shape # for # is slightly more in bare bone costs. In this case the tube steel is more economical.
Worthy considerations above. Thanks!
A tiff is attached to acad2002 DWG. We are printing to Adobe pdf 6.0 Pro. The tiff appears in the full print preview but does not show on the PDF itself. (the autocad entities print fine.)
Has anyone come across this? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
ICBO provides a cd with user friendly software for determining Ss & S1 using 5 digit code. It will also interpolate the soil factor based on site class.
ICBO also puts out a very helpful booklet entitled "QuickStart Guide to the IBC"

What is the factor of safety on friction piles for tensile values (uplift?) Does the allowable uplift force as reported in Geotech report, include a safety factor?
When designing pile foundation for resisting up & down forces due to overturning moment from lateral forces, the code requires a safety factor of 1.5 against overturning (for stability.)
If the piles are being tested to 2.0X the design capacity, is applying the 1.5 F.O.S. to the down force side...
