    there are hundreds of standards and tolerances,agma,bs,iso and din just to name a few, each standard has classes and each class has tolerances within that class, i know this won't help you a lot but it will show you how there is no sraight answer to your question

    hi it should'nt cause any problems but im not sure maybe someone else can be more helpful, why could they not screw the flange on after they cut the gear seeing as the flange is only there as a guide then there would be no undercut.

    hi they are correct to say "its not possible to gear cut to the face of the job". Most machines do require a undercut to allow for the cutter to pull out of its cut.
