    API Plan 53A vs 53B

Thanks flexibox for your reply. The barrier fluid is oil SAE 30 with N2 gas. The problem is that we are having leakage of the barrier fluid from the top of the seal. By the way, what do you mean by topping up ? Regards,

    API Plan 53A vs 53B

Hi guys, We have an agitator with these parameters : T = 210 C P = 18 Barg The seal installed is EagleBurgmann HSL double seal. The plan used is Plan 53A, are the process parameters OK with the 53A ? Or it's recommended to upgrade the flushing system to 53B ? And, what is the max. temp. &...

    Polytropic Head

Thanks pmover. As per the OEM manual speed = 5813 RPM. Mass flow rate = 21655 Kg/hr No inlet conditions mentioned in the manual. Regards,

    Increase pressure in a compressor

dcasto, Do you mean by effective inlet area = impeller area - center bolt ? And effective discharge area = discharge spool area ? Regards,

    Polytropic Head

    Hi guys. I'm trying to calculate the polytropic head for a centrifugal compressor using this equation H = (1545/Mw)*Z*T1*(n/(n-1))*((P2/P1)^(((n-1)/n))-1) Where, Z = 0.996 n = 1.32 P1 = 16.87 PSIA P2 = 23.29 PSIA T1 = 740 R Mw = 68.5 My calculated H = 5579.62 ft But, according the OEM data...

    Increase pressure in a compressor

Wimple, the compressor is 1 stage over-hung centrifugal compressor driven by a motor through a 1 stage speed increaser. Here are the design specs : Volume Flow Rate = 7060 Nm3/hr Mass Flow Rate = 21655.4 Kg/hr Suction Pressure = 0.15 Barg Suction Temperature = 138 ?C Inlet Volume = 10620 m3/hr...

    Increase pressure in a compressor

Well, the speed will not be changed(if you mean compressor speed). Do you think the increased pressure will increase the probability of thrust bearing failure ?!

    Increase pressure in a compressor

dcasto, this compressor doesn't have thrust balancing system. Is there any way that I can make sure that the increase in pressure won't effect the internal components of the compressor ?! wimple, "lower speed" do you mean flow speed ?! Can you please elaborate more ? I really appreciate your...

    Increase pressure in a compressor

Gas is the same and dp is the same. But the only changes were inlet and discharge pressures. Well, i assume increasing the suction pressure might increase the thrust load. What do u think guys ?!

    Backlash measurement

So, where should i put the tip of the dial indicator exactly ? Should i put on the bottom of the gear teeth or on the circular pitch line ?

    Gearbox labyrnith seal melted

Yes, after the melt of the seal we've done the alignment. And, now it's running smoothly. But you know what, I think the parallel misalignment was more than 24 mils when we checked it the first time with the laser alignment tool.

    Backlash measurement

Hi guys. How can we measure the backlash without disassembling the gear for the gearbox ?

    Gearbox labyrnith seal melted

For the coupling : Max axial misalignment (in) = 0.08 Max parallel misalignment (in) = 0.024 Max angular misalignment (degree) = 0.50 When we did the laser alignment we didn't record the amount of misalignment, we only corrected it.

    Gearbox labyrnith seal melted

Thanks guys for your comments. The coupling is a flexible disc type. To see the system configuration, please have a look at the attached image.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=5e949a4a-2228-4a16-b95d-cb4c10e0d86c&file=G301_vibration2_eng_tips.jpg

    Gearbox labyrnith seal melted

Well, actually there was some misalignment between the compressor and the gearbox. And there was no welding don on the shaft, but there was slight rubbing on the shaft. BTW, we had really a rough time trying to grind the melted metal off the shaft. Just a question, do you think that...

    Gearbox labyrnith seal melted

Hi. When we were overhauling a centrifugal compressor which is connected to a motor through a speed increaser (gearbox), we noticed when we opened the gearbox cover that there as some melted metal on the shaft just underneath gearbox labyrnith seal of the high speed shaft (5800 rpm). Why would...
