Serial data from PLC to file, is VB the tool ?

Hi, as a PLC programmer with no (yet) experience of VB, I could do with some guidance. I have an app to develop that will take an ASCII text string (from a PLC) from the serial COM port and save it as a file, the file name being sequentially numbered (0000-9999) with a .prd extension. Once at...

    Expansion Module of S7-200

They just follow on from the existing IO. I think from (fading) memory, you can re-address them in MicroWin. You can always get your code to turn on an output and see if the LED comes on, you can then be sure the CPU is working with the block

    load program from plc

With the Step5 software, the "transfer block" function is used to transfer from PLC to PG (PC).

    WinCC Information

Hi, It's been a couple of years since an aborted WinCC project - but I do remember having a couple of CD's - Config and Comms manual and one other - that had a seemingly ever expanding help tree. I'll dig out the 6ES7 part numbers if I can locate them at work tomorrow

    Step 7 v5.3 Licence Manager

I have just read that the licence manager for v5.3 differs greatly from the old AUTHORSW disk method of authorisation. The Siemens blurb says that you can now have s7 installed on as many PC's as you like and you only pay for the number of licences required for simultaneous users. Surely this...

    Programming for a Punch Press

I have done several punch (blanking, continuous feed) presses in the UK - using only one PLC, but as a must a double circuit safety relay. Had several inspections from regulatory bodies, never any questions - mos tof these presses were converted from relay logic, there was much more danger there...

    PPI-Cable for S7-300?

The S7-200 uses a PPI interface, the cable you have is for these units only. The S7-300 uses a MPI interface. Both are RS485 based, but the protocols are different. There are 3rd party interfaces available that will do both. I have not tested, but have heard reccommendations for the interface...

    SIEMENS S7-200 USS comms

Thanks Rob, It's been a while since I used S7-200's, my software version is V2.1. Have now checked with Siemens and spotted the upgrade to V3 and the optional pack you mentioned. Thanks again, Darren

    STEP 5 SF TIMER PROBLEM

Stop the panic - problem solved !!! It's a S5-100 CPU 103, I've just read you can have 128 timers T 0 - T 127, I called mine T 200 to keep it sepaerate from the others when looking through the code ! This timer appears to work once, then stay on ! Renamed it T 127 and it functions perfect ...

    STEP 5 SF TIMER PROBLEM

Urgent problem with an SF off-delay timer in Step 5. I've got an output that starts an SF timer , The timer is set to run on 1 second after the output stops- this happens OK, but the output is remaining on after the time has elapsed - this is different to the explanation in the S5 help files !!!

    WINCC manual

Anybody know a good resource for WinCC self-teaching ? I have the config and comms manual on CD-ROM, but it's bloody awful to read. Any good 3rd party books ?

    Networkcard WinCC S7-300

I would always recommend using the WinCC computer set to PG mode as described in the post above. I have had less comms problems since adopting this approach ( it was actually recommended by a Siemens tech). I have also had tags showing as "no connection to PLC" when moused over, with...

surge due to "bump" test for motor rotation?

Hi Pete, It's common practice here in the UK too ! However, in my experience, I uncouple the motor and give it a longer run, about 10 seconds. This is mainly because the contactor can be quite remote from the motor I'm testing and I need time to run from the control panel to it and check the...

    servo motors

Thanks guys, spent 2 solid days on it (apart from stopping to talk to production managers who ask how it's going- why do they do that ?) Furhter details, a brushless drive, resolver. As I said, I found a command in the controller for direction (MD), then slept on it last night and went in...

    servo motors

Plenty of useful stuff !! I have little experience with servo motors myself - I am currently trying to replace a 6-pole servo and having lots of fun, the motor insists on going in the wrong direction. I've re-programmed the controller to the best of my ability (it's in Italian!) with a simple...

    Siemens CP343-1

Version difference is almost certainly the cause, I've had similar trouble with an FM counter card. Does the documentation CD that comes with the card not contain an update for your S7 hardware library ? If not contact your local Siemens office and they'll supply you with an update

    SYMPHONY ELMO DRIVE

Hi, I'm working on a problem on a machine that uses 3 ELMO symphony SYM8/270R drives. A safety relay drops the mains power to the drives, but a 24v "keep warm" circuit keeps the processor alive to retain positions / memory etc. This 24v supply is present but the unit dies when mains...
