@EdStainless
Thanks for your response.
Yes. SR is performing for the CS. However, since the vessel is heat treated, these alloy 625 welds are also subjected to heat treatment along with this. PWHT considered as an essential variable as per ASME Sec IX. Thats the concern.
Team,
PQR:- 4mm butt weld
MOC: SB 443 UNS 6625
Service : Sour
Design Code : ASME sec VIII Div 1
Vessel MOC :- 516 gr 70 with UNS6625 clad
Method of cladding:- Explosion bonding
We have received a WPS from our vendor and it's for 4mm 625 plate butt weld. However vendor has performed...
Members,
We have a case of valve disc material F44 and its weld overlaid with alloy 625(NICrMo3) and followed by weld overlaid with Stellite 6.
1. Is it a recommended method to follow and what must be the reason for doing the corrosion resistance overlay before hard facing.
2. What is the...

@SJones Requirement is same for all contractors and vendors. So, it's not related to the quality of contractor/vendor. Thats what the reason we wanted to know the metallurgical background.
Members,
One of client specification mentioned corrosion test G48 method A with duration of 24 hours for forged flanges for UNS 31254 material. But for same UNS 31254 fittings(formed from pipe or plate) G48 method A with duration of 48 hours. Please tell why there is a difference in the...
Dear Team,
Power failure happened during heating cycle of PWHT of APL 5L X65 welds ( piping as per B31.3).understand there is no issue in re-doing the PWHT as the crystal transformation temperature is not reached.
1). Does this interruption will have any impact on metallurgy ?
2). What is...
Team,
One of our vendor has claimed that usage of zirconia grinder is recommended over Inconel material as it will not result in the change in surface chemical composition. Would like to get your view on this
Dear Team,
We have to PMI of Inconel forged material (ASTM B564) with spectro. After the PMI the burn damage due to PMI need to be removed by Grinding. So vendor has proposed grinding with Zirconia grinder in order to avoid the change in chemical composition of material Surface.
So please...
Dear EdStainless,
Some clients specifies to do pickling as per ASTM A 380. But ASTM A 380,its applicable for stainless steel. So its not mandatorily doing by all manufacturers, but following as a recommended one. Client also recommended to follow this whenever the surface contaminations found...
@EdStainless
Thanks.. i would like to add the back ground for this case which will have more clarity on my query.
We have fabricated Inconel spools from our shop and shipped to field with proper preservations. During the site fabrications ,we found rust spots in root side of the weld in...
@kingnero
Concern is not the type of stainless steel wire brush used. Concern here is what is the impact if we use SS wire brush on Inconel as iron content is more in the ss compare to Inconel.
Dear team,
As we know use of CS wire brush over SS and inconel welds are not preferable as it will lead to contamination and rust spots generation. Similarly what will the impact of using ss wire brush over Inconel welds ?
Weld :- Inconel 625

F468 doesnt state the stage of heat treatment .. Concern is the impact of metallurgy and mechanical properties after rolling operation .So did the re-heat treatment is required ...
Dear Team,
F468 grade 625 manufactured by rolling operation and heat treatment (annealing) done on the bar prior to manufacture of studs. No annealing done after the rolling operation is completed. Is it acceptable

Dear All,
We have received input from manufacturer that the SAW pipe test coupons are doing simulated PWHT prior to MPQT as per API 5L.Please let us know why this simulated PWHT is doing for test coupon and whether this is required as per standard
