The bypass line back to the tank was to probably prevent overheating when the pump is running at shut-off (no flow) and to minimize shaft deflection. Cavitation occurs at excessive flow rates, not minimum flow rates. If left on overnight the pump can make the entire water tank warm during the...- Mike4255
