    AISC seminar on field fixes said too much heat can cause spalling. Their recommendation is to provide thick plates (1/2" minimum for deck bearing, 3/4" for beam bearing). I have managed to stay out of trouble by using 3/4" for embed plates at beam bearing conditions.

    I have always done performance spec (size, Fb, Fv, E, and grade). No problems from the Contractors standpoint. My terminology on the drawings for the Parallams is "SCL" for Structural Composite Lumber.

    I have limited experience w/ PT design, but I have accumulated a stack of stuff in preparation for a PT flat plate design. Looks like the recommended max for beams is generally 350 to 400 psi, with the main concerns being restraint issues and economy.
